January 2011 Big Meet

Laurent posts: 1029 United Kingdom

Dear Members,

Calendar cock-up.

I would like to apologise for the absence of a Big Meet event for January.

Although the "post the monthly Big Meet event" thing is not formally assigned to anyone, you may have noticed that humble me has repeatedly volunteered to do so of late.

As mentioned by Adam on the 7th Sea thread my Christmas holidays have not gone as planned at all.

The last two weeks before my break were a bit hectic, so I never got to set up the event.

The plan was to set-up said Big Meet calendar events, and prepare a game to run, the week before Christmas.

This perfectly laid plan got disrupted by my visiting Heathrow Terminal 4 and enjoying talking to the Delta Airlines staff for four days (insert sarcasm), then hunting for my luggage once in Rochester (NY state), battling a nasty cold, seeing my planned visit of New York city cancelled due to extremely bad weather, then on the way back spending nearly five hours in a National Express coach from London Heathrow back to Nott'm, just to realise that a water pipe had burst in the flat two floors above mine once I arrived home...

Needless to say that for all the gaming and socialising joy EMRPGG is procuring me, setting-up the Big Meet events and getting ready for it has not exactly been at the top of my concerns lately.

Is there a January Big Meet?

Honestly I do not know.

I know that I will not be going, thus not running The Hollow's Chronicles. I have a flat to clean, stuff to move around for my landlord to sort out the water damage, or in other words cope with the joy of handling the aftermath of a burst pipe event.

Adam will not be there either to run 7th Sea Adventures.

A quick look at the site over the Christmas break shows very little activity in the forums, and nobody talking about running anything at the January Big Meet.

Unless somebody comes up with something (running a game, bringing board games, etc) within the next few days, I believe there will be no January Big Meet.

The fact that the second Saturday of the year falls that early is not helping either.

Laurent,

My health has been the big issue for me. I had to cry off the December event because I was just not up to it, and have been basically running day to day throughout December.

All I could manage over the break was aimed towards the fantastically successful new year event where six of us played a mammoth session, most managing a full 25+ hours of continuous playing. However the success of that was more down to all the attendees pulling together than anything I was able to do.

I am able to bring card and board games if I am OK on the day, but I can't guarantee to be there, so it would be wrong of me to try to offer a game. If I can make it, I would love to be a player.

I have been bad enough that I am now often unable to function for a couple of days each week. Its making work very difficult, and also affecting my playing sometimes.

It would be a shame to see the big meet not take place, but I have to admit I can not be relied upon as I once could.

Len,

As mentioned, I will skip this one and I am aware of your health problems. I was in no way trying to offload the January Big Meet on you.

I do not think setting-up the event that late would do much good, especially since there is indeed no game being put forward, beyond your mention of "If I can turn up...".

At times over the Christmas period, I checked the forums and catered half-heartedly to my Rise of the Runelords game, but never really got to do anything on the site. Running the game last night was a nice distraction though, but Saturday is definitely off for me.

Next year, the second Saturday of January will be far later into 2012, on the 14th, so people would have been back to their day to day routine for longer.

Again, sorry to sort of call it off by default,

If anyone still wants to run a game, please use this thread to talk about it and attract a few players. Again, no game has been discussed by GMs lately and only one direct enquiry from a player has been made about the January Big Meet, so even if it had been organised it feels like not many people were going to show-up.

Laurent,

if other people say they plan to go and be there, then I am free. But if no one does seem to be going by saturday morning, i won't bother to head out.
