Bandaluthia Session 28
Bandaluthia: Session 28
Rubins left very happy. He was 18,000gp richer and he had stone (pun intended) cold proof that The Amulets of Baator were real.
Roth offered to stay up and guard, so the Animals could get a peaceful nights sleep. Things did not go to plan however. Roth awoke the party as some bugbears moved in from the East, and gnolls in from the South. The bugbears were encumbered by a very large box. It took all six to carry it. There were about fifteen gnolls, and a few hyenas. Roth and Jacob started to shoot arrows at the oncoming gnolls. Elodee transmuted into another gnoll, and called out to the bugbears that they had been attacked, the lead bugbear came to investigate.
Ratsel unleashed his full evoker powers and he fireballed the lead bugbear. Shaniqua turned invisible and went around the back of another bugbear. Coolio crept up to another and gave it his crossbow bolts. Spells, arrows, bolts and swords flashed in the moonlight, and soon the huge goblinoids lay dead and the gnolls never got close to the circle of rocks. The Animals were victorious in yet another skirmish.
The large box turned out to be carrying a gnome built magic digging device. The animals struggled to get it down the hole, but once in place, the machine started to rip through the dirt like a hot knife through butter. Some careful manoeuvring saw the half dug room, completely clear. The far wall, the last bit to be uncovered had been hiding a portal. It had mystical runes about it, but seemingly no way of opening it. The room also revealed some very nice books. Ancient and worth some very serious money. The ones that caught Ratsel’s eye (with guidance from ‘detect magic’) turned out to ancient tomes of other planer magic. Infernal, Abyssal and Celestial, with two others unreadable by any within the party.
It was here, in the freshly dug out room that a devil appeared. A bone devil. It demanded the Amulet, but Ratsel was in no mood for niceties. A blast from his kaleidoscope showed the devil the mood of the Animals. The rest followed suit and tried to blast the devil back to Hell. The devil started to deliver some evil, but just as the infernal abomination started to get on top of the fight he succumbed to Elodee’s slumber spell. The sub-conscious devil disappeared.
As the Animals started to pay more attention to the portal, a loud noise from above ground made them investigate that instead. Ten barbarians had turned up. The Palanthian patrols had been attracted by the ever growing crowd of carrion birds building up over the bodies of the slain. Roth made sure that there were no mis-understandings between the patrol and the Animals, as he introduced them both. The barbarians cleared away the bodies, and set them alight.
It was about here the session ended. Will the portal be opened?
