Slumbering Tsar game

Moving the talk of this game, into it's own thread.

As it stands there is me and three players. Would be good to have one more. [Although I'm kinda thinking that if Ginga is able to host he'd probably join us]

4 players is good with me numbers wise.

Basics of the adventure path:
Starting level: 7
Races: any of the races in the core book.
Classes: Any from Core/APG/Complete magic/Complete Warrior. [Although no Summoner or Gunslinger]
Starting cash: 23,500gp

This adventure is a sandbox like adventure. You have the area of The Desolation and the City of Tsar open to you to explore/plunder. You can choose were you go and in which order you do it in. [Although a gentle GM pointer do the area of The Desolation first then go to the City of Tsar]

Just a side note (to make it a little easier for me) your characters are members of the Pathfinder Society. [It is up to you if you want your characters to have worked together before or if you know each other prior to setting out]

Background:
Your characters have been given an job by the Pathfinder Society to investigate the region known as The Desolation, and the deserted city of Tsar.[They have pointed you to the hamlet called "The Camp" as a home base while in the area]
The society is particularly interested in this area for two reasons.

Firstly the old trade route that existed through The Desolation if made safe would mean that the Society would have a significant advantage in trade between the Inner Sea Region and Tian Xia.*

Secondly, the history's of this area report long ago that the (now deserted) city of Tsar was a city held by Orcus. There was a battle between the forces of light and the forces of Orcus, which changed the nature of The Desolation.

Given the history's there must surely be many interesting relics that should be claimed for the Society so that they can be stored safely and be kept out of the wrong hands. The society would also be interested in further information about the battles that happened here as the recorded histories have many gaps in them.

They have mentioned that if you are able to make The Desolation and the City of Tsar safe, they would need a capable group to set up a Pathfinder Society Lodge in the area, and perhaps run the area for the good of the Society.

  • A note, I am placing The Desolation in the area of the Inner Sea called The World Wound. The city that you would have been given this assignment in would be Bard's Gate.

Almort (Ding): Lich Sorcerer
Rondar (Ron): Magus. Now an NPC as he fell at the feet of Orcus in a dream.
Mehilainen Kirkas (Mel): Cleric. Sometimes known as "the one armed Bint"

Ah, 'Trampolining and Pirates', that brings back memories! My Boots of Striding have a +5 to Acrobatics, feel free to borrow them for the evening. biggrin

Does anyone know if Sir Rondar can make it? Pendragon adventures are not stand-alone – they’re all supposed to be part of an on-going campaign arc. I’m thinking it might be a shame to start the story going if there are people missing.

Hmm. So... Boardgames? Doom is always an option – I have the prequel scenario to the one we played last time ready. Merchants & Marauders is a very good game also, should anyone fancy playing pirates as well?

Thoughts anyone?

Tim the Enchanter posts: 123

Okay I have gone through the plot notes for the first chapter of Pendragon and I would really prefer that everyone who might want to give the game a go is there for the first session.

So barring any objections or better ideas my suggestion is:

Tomorrow: Doom.

And then in 2 Weeks time: Pendragon RPG.
Assuming Nick is still entangled with this ‘work stuff’* of course.

How does that sound?

(*Although as we all know the real story here is that Orcus has acquired some photos of Nick in a ‘compromising position’ surprised and is blackmailing him in a desperate attempt to foil the party by halting the game itself.)

Ding posts: 204 United Kingdom

ORCUS! Damn your meta gaming!

As far as I know Orcus and I are on good terms. (He definitely wants to meet the party!)

Its those annoying Inevitables that are getting in the way, damn them.

melociraptor posts: 86

Ah, inevitables. It's almost like nothing can stop them.
...

Doom tomorrow sounds like a good plan, it was great last time. Intrigued by Pendragon. Based on a very brief glance at the wikipedia article and my recent immersion in the History Channel's 'Vikings', I can see myself in some kind of Nordic Shield Maiden role...

I have asked the two players in the Tsar game that are not regulars on here (Ron and Brad) if they are interested in the Pendragon game.
As and when I get a reply from either of them I'll let you know Tim.

Tim the Enchanter posts: 123

Oh yeah: 7pm start, btw... biggrin

Mel: tbh I’ve always felt you had something of the 'Nordic Shield Maiden' about you anyway, so things have worked out just right.

Nick: Ok cool. Thanks.
Some information that might assist their decision-making:

(1) Exploring the basic incompatibility of the Chivalric Ideal and the reality of medieval life is part of the game. The game system itself severely punishes continual un-Knightly behaviour (like theft or deception).

(2) Seducing Buxom Tavern Wenches (or handsome minstrels...) is all part of a days work for a brave Knight.

Ron is working nights this week so will not be able to make it to tonight's game.

Not sure that Brad is all that interested in it.

May be worth starting your game next session so that Ron can be there.

Just letting you know that I'll be at the shop ready to play something this evening. It's looking like it'll be the three of us unless the shop gnomes want to join us.

Ding posts: 204 United Kingdom

Tim. If I'm right, Jules is going to be away for the next three sessions as he's off working in China. I guess that leaves us with a couple of options.

1. Start Pendragon without him and have him join when he gets back.

2. Play some other games whilst we wait for his return.

Tim the Enchanter posts: 123

Well, our loss is China’s gain it seems.

I suppose, realistically speaking, that even if we did delay everything for 2 months there would still be no real guarantees of a full house. So I am inclined to go ahead as planned and see what happens.

At least Jules will be back in time for Buffy – which, of course, is the RPG event of the year that everyone is really waiting for.

Ding posts: 204 United Kingdom

Excellent idea.

melociraptor posts: 86

Is there anything we need to bring/prepare for tonight, Tim?

Tim the Enchanter posts: 123

Just the usual sorts of RPG stuff I guess.

Dice (I think 1d20 and 10d6 should cover it), some sort of writing implement and a bit of parchment maybe.

...and your good self, of course. biggrin

Tonbo posts: 45

China's so cool, I think I might stay...

But I'll come back for gaming nights of course. Hope you are all well, looking forward to Buffy.
Have loads of fun without me, cos I'll be back before you know it.biggrin

Ding posts: 204 United Kingdom

Glad you're having a good time. You missed a fun first session of Pendragon.

As a general idea, since Slumbering Tsar is on hold, and this is the Slumbering Tsar thread, I think we should start a new thread.

G.A.V.E.O.T. (Games at vague every other thursday) is my suggestion for our group name.

Tim the Enchanter posts: 123

Yeah I was going to bring up the subject of a separate thread at the next session. Some of the Pendragon 'Glory' stuff will need to be posted somewhere and I'd rather not spam this thread with it.

Originally, when I'd be running something from 9pm onwards, I was planning to start a thread called either Slumbering Tsar Nights or Slumbering Tsar After Dark. However, Exotic Adventures at Vague Connections now also appeals.

Also, to clarify what I may or may not have communicated with maximum efficaciousness last session:

The Pendragon Storyline is divided up into Chapters - so an option for the group, if everyone is on board with it, would be to finish off the first chapter (which is fairly short) and then take a break. Play a few different systems and stuff, and then discuss whether people are interested in the 2nd chapter...?

Tim the Enchanter posts: 123

Scorchio!

I cannot believe Kieran vetoed ‘Exotic Adventures at Vague’ as a thread title. Back to the drawing board I guess. How about Slumbering Tsar: The Next Generation? Or perhaps even Tsar Trek: TNG?

Also if there is, in principle, a feeling that we may, at some unspecified future point, continue on with Ch 2 of Pendragon then it might make sense to chuck that in a thread of its own.

Speak your thoughts, noble Dice Warriors.

Ding posts: 204 United Kingdom

Here's a few more to throw in the hat. I've tried to combine your desire for carrying on the Tsar legacy and mine for acronyms.

Awakening T.S.A.R.
The Rousing of T.S.A.R.

Where T.S.A.R. (Thursday Sessions Assorted RPGs).

Perhaps, the naming of the group needs its own thread, what should that thread be called? hahaha, it's all getting a bit meta.

P.S. my favorite acronym (undone) from Douglas Hofstadter:
I'm So Meta Even This Acronym

Tim the Enchanter posts: 123

My impatience threshold has just been reached.
There is a thread HERE that we can use from now on.

I recommend, however, that we spend at least 2 hours of every gaming session discussing a proper name for the group/thread.
