Slumbering Tsar game

Moving the talk of this game, into it's own thread.

As it stands there is me and three players. Would be good to have one more. [Although I'm kinda thinking that if Ginga is able to host he'd probably join us]

4 players is good with me numbers wise.

Basics of the adventure path:
Starting level: 7
Races: any of the races in the core book.
Classes: Any from Core/APG/Complete magic/Complete Warrior. [Although no Summoner or Gunslinger]
Starting cash: 23,500gp

This adventure is a sandbox like adventure. You have the area of The Desolation and the City of Tsar open to you to explore/plunder. You can choose were you go and in which order you do it in. [Although a gentle GM pointer do the area of The Desolation first then go to the City of Tsar]

Just a side note (to make it a little easier for me) your characters are members of the Pathfinder Society. [It is up to you if you want your characters to have worked together before or if you know each other prior to setting out]

Background:
Your characters have been given an job by the Pathfinder Society to investigate the region known as The Desolation, and the deserted city of Tsar.[They have pointed you to the hamlet called "The Camp" as a home base while in the area]
The society is particularly interested in this area for two reasons.

Firstly the old trade route that existed through The Desolation if made safe would mean that the Society would have a significant advantage in trade between the Inner Sea Region and Tian Xia.*

Secondly, the history's of this area report long ago that the (now deserted) city of Tsar was a city held by Orcus. There was a battle between the forces of light and the forces of Orcus, which changed the nature of The Desolation.

Given the history's there must surely be many interesting relics that should be claimed for the Society so that they can be stored safely and be kept out of the wrong hands. The society would also be interested in further information about the battles that happened here as the recorded histories have many gaps in them.

They have mentioned that if you are able to make The Desolation and the City of Tsar safe, they would need a capable group to set up a Pathfinder Society Lodge in the area, and perhaps run the area for the good of the Society.

  • A note, I am placing The Desolation in the area of the Inner Sea called The World Wound. The city that you would have been given this assignment in would be Bard's Gate.

Almort (Ding): Lich Sorcerer
Rondar (Ron): Magus. Now an NPC as he fell at the feet of Orcus in a dream.
Mehilainen Kirkas (Mel): Cleric. Sometimes known as "the one armed Bint"

There's a chance I might not make it tonight because my gran's just been taken into hospital, but I will do my best!

melociraptor posts: 86

Should be able to make it but might be a bit late!

Afternoon all, apologies for the late update.
I'm calling tonight's game off as I've had next to no sleep the last couple of days, and cannot seem to keep my eyes open.

However I am willing to run the game next week if everyone is free.

Ding posts: 204 United Kingdom

Does anyone fancy playing a different game?

(edit) I've heard from Jules and Ron, so the three of us will be turning up to play something or other.

melociraptor posts: 86

I'll be there too. Feel better Nick! I can't make it next week though.

melociraptor posts: 86

I can't remember if I mentioned this already but I can't make the game this week as I'm on holiday (again). Have fun, see you all next time!

Hi Mel,
Hope you have a good time on your hols!
I'll try not to kill pc's!

Last Session:

Firstly: We are now Level 13.

Secondly: A certain somebody forgot their character sheet. As a result: Ron’s animal companion was suddenly possessed of a fierce and passionate yearning for sorcerous secrets man (and bear) was not meant to know. That’s how it came across to me anyway.

So... out of the shadows wiggle two ‘Tentacled Horrors.’ After a bit of being grappled and having acid sprayed on us we prevail. Continuing onwards the tunnel opens out half-way up a cliff edge giving us commanding views over the boggy Northern area of Tsar, with lots of nice waterfalls and a swampy lake right below us.

We find a narrow ledge and start to make our way downwards. However the Paladin reckons that the water looks great and deliberately fails a climb check just to jump right in. Unfortunately there’s always a bigger fish (so I’ve heard) which in this case took the shape of a Giant Bog Turtle which swallows the Paladin whole.

The Ninja lays down suppressing fire as the rest of us dive in to the rescue. However we needn’t have bothered, as the Bog Turtle had ignored the #1 rule of Swamp Gastronomy: never swallow a heavily armed meal before noon – and developed a sudden, and very fatal, Heavy Flail Allergy. Massively tenderised Turtle for tea, yum.

The Ninja dives down into the swamp to pick up four pieces of treasure.
“Actually there were only two pieces,” says the Ninja.
“Oh,” we say. “Our mistake.”
The Ninja sneaks off behind a tree and pulls two objects from his pockets. “Ah, my precious,” he whispers to them.

In other news:

There was some talk about moving future sessions to a 6pm start...
Or sending Nick off to bed so the grown-ups could play something else from 9-ish onwards...
Or maybe both of those?

Any consensus on what’s happening?

Ding posts: 204 United Kingdom

I'm happy with an early start, say 6 ish, and split the session equally into two.

6-8ish - 8ish to 10.

Alternative we can start later, if people can't make it.

Given that start time is S, and finish time is F in hours.

C = fudge factor, where C > -0.33333' and C < +0.33333' hours

Nick's session runs, from S till S + 0.5(F-S)+ C

Tim's session runs, from S + 0.5(F-S)+ C till F

We know that F is 10+C.

Therefore

Switch point = S + 0.5(10+C-S)+ C = 0.5S + 1.5C + 5

melociraptor posts: 86

I'm happy to start at 6 and engage in any complex coding mathematics that are necessary to continue playing. As long as no-one minds me bringing my dinner.

Tim the Enchanter posts: 123

I am not bothered about actually splitting the session in half. The original intent is just for something to do after Nick bails, so 9+/-C onwards is fine.
Besides, I have never actually played Pendragon before - we might hate it! biggrin

Honestly I am still okay with 7-9 then 9+. At least it gives the wargamers in Vague time to finish up and leave us the big table.

-----

In terms of testing the long-term viability of this plan I think you should really be modelling C with a Gaussian Distribution Curve, with various Confidence Intervals based on how many energy drinks Ron and Bradders have consumed.

And is the session in this Galaxy? Then where is the Galactic Constant θ?

Honestly, you people and your highfalutin degrees and such.
No wonder the Millenium Bridge nearly fell down.

:p

I think the possible 6pm start was only floated as an idea as that's when I tend to turn up at Vague. I'm happy for the game to start at its traditional 7pm start point or at 6pm (or somewhere in between).

As for reference's to C. I thought that this was the term generally know to equal something like 299 792 458 m/s (or so) and tends to come in several varieties: normal C mode, or squared, or plus (or double plus) or shaped.

Ding posts: 204 United Kingdom

Just like my eggs, I'm easy. But that's a different story.

Regarding this issue, I'm happy to go with consensus on the start time and session split.

Tim: I always forget the galatic constant.

Nick: There's only so many letters, we can't let the super genises have them all.

Tim the Enchanter posts: 123

Sorry peeps, something has cropped up. I cannae make it tonight.
See you all in two weeks.

Morning all,
I've just been advised by our kind host, (Kieren) that as he's unwell he's not able to host us tonight.

So next game will be in a fortnight.
Sorry about the late notice though.

Nick

Hi all.
Sorry to say due to work stuff getting in the way I'm going to have to pause the Tsar game for a while.

I want to re-start it as soon as I'm able to. I'll keep you posted

Ding posts: 204 United Kingdom

Sorry to hear that Nick. Work can be a complete bum face sometimes. It's like work doesn't want anyone to have fun. Looking forward to you getting back in the seat and getting to punch and burn big bads.

I am still free every other thursday as normal, so if we, as a remaining group, would like to continue to play in Nick's absense then I'm up for it. I can even run a few games if needs be.

I've got a couple of ideas on the back burner. Although I need to get rule systems to suit (and finish my thesis).

1. Call of Cthulu - I've been wanting to try this out for ages, but I'm waiting for them to release the updated rule book (due October-ish). All members of the group would be tied to a multi-disciplinary research team with different researching occults, artifacts and strange going ons.

2. A modern day Zombie Surivor - just being playing the walking dead point and click game and it's awesome. Want to find a way to add an 30 second timer for important decisions, add some stress to the situation.

In the mean time I know we've all being waiting to see what Tim pulls out of his hat. I really enjoyed his hacked boardgame/narritive version of Doom.

melociraptor posts: 86

I'm still keen to play something, anything, until Nick has conquered the work demons and is restored to us once more. I could try running something but I'm not very good at remembering rules, or anything else, so expect it to be a total shambles. This should be more of a last resort for if Ding and Tim get totally disillusioned with running things...

Tim the Enchanter posts: 123

Pendragon should be more or less ready to go. I’m not sure if what I’ve done so far will last the entire night though so maybe a Plan B might be a good idea. Munchkin or something?

The original plan was for me to prep some pre-gens tomorrow so we could jump straight into a short adventure. I guess if we started the session with character generation and I used the prep time to extend the adventure instead we might be okay. I have no idea how quickly you’ll get through it.

@Ding: Thanks for the kind words. I have signed you up for the playtest of my Doom Boardgame Extended Campaign Rules.

biggrin

Tonbo posts: 45

My apologies all. It doesn't look like I am going to be able to make it as I need to collect Audrey on Thursday afternoon and will therefore be looking after her on Thursday night playing pirates and jumping on a trampoline most likely; I suppose on that note you could all join us.
