Slumbering Tsar game

Moving the talk of this game, into it's own thread.

As it stands there is me and three players. Would be good to have one more. [Although I'm kinda thinking that if Ginga is able to host he'd probably join us]

4 players is good with me numbers wise.

Basics of the adventure path:
Starting level: 7
Races: any of the races in the core book.
Classes: Any from Core/APG/Complete magic/Complete Warrior. [Although no Summoner or Gunslinger]
Starting cash: 23,500gp

This adventure is a sandbox like adventure. You have the area of The Desolation and the City of Tsar open to you to explore/plunder. You can choose were you go and in which order you do it in. [Although a gentle GM pointer do the area of The Desolation first then go to the City of Tsar]

Just a side note (to make it a little easier for me) your characters are members of the Pathfinder Society. [It is up to you if you want your characters to have worked together before or if you know each other prior to setting out]

Background:
Your characters have been given an job by the Pathfinder Society to investigate the region known as The Desolation, and the deserted city of Tsar.[They have pointed you to the hamlet called "The Camp" as a home base while in the area]
The society is particularly interested in this area for two reasons.

Firstly the old trade route that existed through The Desolation if made safe would mean that the Society would have a significant advantage in trade between the Inner Sea Region and Tian Xia.*

Secondly, the history's of this area report long ago that the (now deserted) city of Tsar was a city held by Orcus. There was a battle between the forces of light and the forces of Orcus, which changed the nature of The Desolation.

Given the history's there must surely be many interesting relics that should be claimed for the Society so that they can be stored safely and be kept out of the wrong hands. The society would also be interested in further information about the battles that happened here as the recorded histories have many gaps in them.

They have mentioned that if you are able to make The Desolation and the City of Tsar safe, they would need a capable group to set up a Pathfinder Society Lodge in the area, and perhaps run the area for the good of the Society.

  • A note, I am placing The Desolation in the area of the Inner Sea called The World Wound. The city that you would have been given this assignment in would be Bard's Gate.

Almort (Ding): Lich Sorcerer
Rondar (Ron): Magus. Now an NPC as he fell at the feet of Orcus in a dream.
Mehilainen Kirkas (Mel): Cleric. Sometimes known as "the one armed Bint"

As Nick can't make it this evening.

I can run a game if people still want to play. I got fiasco (a very good story telling game) for Christmas and it'll play with 3-5 players from memory. What says you?

More info, here, here and here.

I think I've also failed my fort save vs the same disease so I won't be able to make it tonight either.

Aie! You tricked me into watching a video with Wesley Crusher in it... mad

Tbh I think Fiasco would give me a headache, so I think I will give this one a miss. neutral

Ding posts: 204 United Kingdom

In which case I'll call it off. Are we next due in a fortnight then?

Tim the Enchanter posts: 123

Thanks for making the offer though. biggrin

I think we share Thursdays @ Vague with one of Ron's games, so next Bumbling Star will be in two weeks. (I'd imagine.)

Yep the next game will be the 24th.

In a undead slave factory in the City of Tsar.

"Rondar watch out for that.... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

-Rondar the unlucky, belly scarred Magus falls to the floor very badly hurt dead,dead.-
-Massive cure spell from Mehilainen the Cleric-

"Rondar you're alive, just, are you ok? Don't get up that... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

-Rondar falls to the floor, again-
-Four armed gargoyle slain in a (PC Name) the Ninja / Kirkas(?) the fighter sandwich-
-Undead sand gribblies are killed-

"Did anyone make sure Rondar was ok?"

"He seems fine, unconcious but fine."

"Quick, tie him to the table he may have turned evil" (Note: each time you go unconcious in the City of Tsar you slip one step towards evil)

-Rondar is tied to the table-

"If he's turned Orcus style evil, evil, kill him"

-Almort the Sorcerer Lich thinks "hmmm maybe I can try out my new manual, sand, meat and bone, three minions for the price of one. For the greater good of course. hehehe."-
-Rondar wakes with madness in his eyes-
-Kalos-Eez The Paladin strikes a mighty blow with a stoic face, his hair shifting from the wake of his swipe-
-The table is left in splinters on the floor, there is no sign of Rondar-

"Dim door, perhaps?"

"Oh well, lets look upstairs... ooooooh shinies"

.
.
.

Awsome session. Rondar will be missed by the party if not by the GM.

Thanks for the write up :-) To clear up your name-related confusion, my character goes by Mehilainen and Kirkas, which is her second name and the one she likes her friends to call her, because she's a bit pretentious. It usually backfires, though, because all her friends call her the One Armed Bint.

Ding posts: 204 United Kingdom

Ahhhh, I always get confused with the names. Nick, if possible, could you list the character names and roles in the main heading/description section at the top? Makes write-ups a bit more personal than job descriptions.

All the best

Updated the top bit to include the character names I can remember off the top of my head.

If you could let me know of the names of your characters I'll update the page with them.

Ding.

Now might be an interesting time to try a little... ‘memory experiment.’

When you next have a spare 10 minutes or so, focus your mind on the following question. “If I knew the name of the Fighter, what would it be?” Frame this question in your mind as if you were asking it directly to your subconscious mind. And then pause afterwards, allowing an air of expectation to build, as if you were in discussion with a particularly interesting and creative friend - and waiting for them to respond with their unique insight. And then ask again. “If I knew the name of the Fighter, what would it be?” And again, and again.

Then, when you have done this for 10 minutes or so, move onto doing something completely different and think no more about it.

And try not to be too surprised when the answer you are looking for pops into your head.

***

I have read a fair few ‘Session Write-ups’ that use character names and it all quickly becomes a blur of “somebody did this, somebody did that, someone or other did something else.” Rapidly the whole party just becomes a group of faceless nobodies. Better to be a profession than disappear entirely.

Try it and see.

Mel.

Actually Kirkas is a key member of the team, so if we hear you calling her a ‘One-Armed Bint’ again you’ll be in trouble, ‘kay? :p

Ding posts: 204 United Kingdom

Tim: I will try a different technique, I will simply wait until we are next playing and try to look at your character sheet. Then I will make a note somewhere. This will save my mental capacity for wondering such things as:

At what level of building security do you have to stop being polite by holding the door open for someone?

What number of tickets should someone buy each week when playing the inverse lottery to maximise profit?
(in the inverse lottery, you are given a £1 for each ticket you enter, but when your numbers come up you are fined instead of rewarded, the fine is proportional to the number of tickets entered and the number of matching balls you have out of the six. It's just like the normally lottery only backwards and no money is given to charity)

hmmm...

First name terms are so very much more appropriate, no? Unless you are speaking out of great respect or the situation requires use of the second/surname; Kirkas. I am not sure how many of our party have a surname but modern names can often be traced back to the origins (well sometimes) of that person's job...(or if you are Scottish form of employment).

'Smith' was someone who worked with metal a derivative of the Old English smitan; to strike, hit, beat or smite. This means that if Kalos-Eez was to adopt a surname he may choose Smitan/Smith as smitan happens to entail some of his favourite past times and his career.

In many years time the fighters descendants may be referred to as Mr Feohtere (Anglo-Saxon for fighter)... and so on. However we are not in Olde Little Britain, so this translation may not apply. Also, we don't often get called what we would necessarily like; nicknames as a process of substitution are often given out of affection, laziness, ridicule or familiarity.

Kirkas may always be known as the ‘One-Armed Bint’, out of a term of affection I must add, even though she miraculously grew a second arm, there is just no escaping it sometimes.

I wonder if Rondar's father will be labelled similarly to the recently deceased?

melociraptor posts: 86

Kirkas is actually her middle name, her full name being Mehilainen Kirkas Metsa'Asunnon. Being a massive geek, I like to give my characters my full name in different languages... which usually involves finding out what my name means, then sticking that in google translate. Kirkas's name is roughly mine in Finnish. Randomly.

Well in my defense, Rondar isn't dead. He's just resting and gone to a "better" place. twisted

(You never know, in time it might be Ron's new character that actually kills his original character)

Tim the Enchanter posts: 123

Fighter = Maður Með Sverði. (The 'Bendy d' is pronounced 'th'.)

The name given to him by his axe-wielding kin in the Lands of the Linnorm Kings after killing the Dreaded Pink Troll of Hafdir's Barrow with the fallen sword of its last victim.

What they would make of his current +3 Katana is anyone's guess.

Re: "the fighter's descendants"

Speaking of which, is it not about time we had some foxy Lady NPCs to rescue or something?
These 'descendants' won't make themselves, will they...

(Mama Grim doesn't count, btw.)

Tim the Enchanter posts: 123

On second thoughts ignore that last bit.

Suddenly I am paranoid that the first 'damsel in distress' we rescue will turn out to be Evil Rondar* wearing a Girdle of Opposite Gender...

Hopefully the deception is revealed before things get too weird, eh? eek

Yikes.

(* Rondaretta?)

Ding posts: 204 United Kingdom

Sorry guys and gals, I cannot make this Thursday's game. Hope it's all epic and stuff gets killed.

Ding posts: 204 United Kingdom

So, what happened?

Right quick update of what happened last week. (Hopefully another player will do an update more creativly than I am able to!)

Team awesome decided to go and hunt about in the caves below the city. For some reason our fighter and paladin were not too keen to go into the swampy area. (Wonder why smile )

In the caves the team happened to wander into a shrine to the Frog God. Just as the troglodytes were about to perform the required religious rituals to the Frog God.

The team did win out after putting down around 60 or so naughty naughty troglodytes.

Special mentions should go to a) Our intrepid Ninja. For having so much trouble with some Leaches.
b) Our Ranger, who turned into a fire elemental, in a room that had lots of water on the floor.

And super special mention goes to our wonderful Paladin. Who (as we worked out) healed one of the baddies twice with his hammer. For a total of 300 points of healing! (That's a) More than the amount of Damage he did in the entire encounter, and b) just over half of the total amount of hit points that the group at the table had in total!)
