Slumbering Tsar game

Moving the talk of this game, into it's own thread.

As it stands there is me and three players. Would be good to have one more. [Although I'm kinda thinking that if Ginga is able to host he'd probably join us]

4 players is good with me numbers wise.

Basics of the adventure path:
Starting level: 7
Races: any of the races in the core book.
Classes: Any from Core/APG/Complete magic/Complete Warrior. [Although no Summoner or Gunslinger]
Starting cash: 23,500gp

This adventure is a sandbox like adventure. You have the area of The Desolation and the City of Tsar open to you to explore/plunder. You can choose were you go and in which order you do it in. [Although a gentle GM pointer do the area of The Desolation first then go to the City of Tsar]

Just a side note (to make it a little easier for me) your characters are members of the Pathfinder Society. [It is up to you if you want your characters to have worked together before or if you know each other prior to setting out]

Background:
Your characters have been given an job by the Pathfinder Society to investigate the region known as The Desolation, and the deserted city of Tsar.[They have pointed you to the hamlet called "The Camp" as a home base while in the area]
The society is particularly interested in this area for two reasons.

Firstly the old trade route that existed through The Desolation if made safe would mean that the Society would have a significant advantage in trade between the Inner Sea Region and Tian Xia.*

Secondly, the history's of this area report long ago that the (now deserted) city of Tsar was a city held by Orcus. There was a battle between the forces of light and the forces of Orcus, which changed the nature of The Desolation.

Given the history's there must surely be many interesting relics that should be claimed for the Society so that they can be stored safely and be kept out of the wrong hands. The society would also be interested in further information about the battles that happened here as the recorded histories have many gaps in them.

They have mentioned that if you are able to make The Desolation and the City of Tsar safe, they would need a capable group to set up a Pathfinder Society Lodge in the area, and perhaps run the area for the good of the Society.

  • A note, I am placing The Desolation in the area of the Inner Sea called The World Wound. The city that you would have been given this assignment in would be Bard's Gate.

Almort (Ding): Lich Sorcerer
Rondar (Ron): Magus. Now an NPC as he fell at the feet of Orcus in a dream.
Mehilainen Kirkas (Mel): Cleric. Sometimes known as "the one armed Bint"

Glad my pulling out on short notice didn't stop your fun!
Hopefully this isn't going to be an ongoing thing :-) (I have every intention of this being a one off thing!)
However I think Ding has a good idea, what I'm going to ask of the group is that you have a one shot game (of anything you like) in case I'm ever unable to run the game.
This way there is always a backup game to be run, and it also gives you guys the chance to run/play in games other than Pathfinder should you want to.

With the non conformity of last session I seem to have gone a bit wrong in the head. Are we playing tomorrow? Lost all track of time... And what level are we now? Lost all track of character sheets... *brain fart*

Yes its on as normal tomorrow.
As for level I think your level 11 (although could one of the players confirm this as the only character sheet I tend to have is Ding's and I don't have it to hand)

You had the Left Hand side of The Desolace to explore, and (having cruelly murdered an innocent Tar Dragon that was just going about its business) the way into the city of Tsar is open to you should you want to go in there.(The team from memory were resting up at The Camp were we last left it)

Tim the Enchanter posts: 123

We hit Level 11 just before the Dragon turned up.

(Yes - the same Dragon that "innocently" puked acid over us then began "just going about its business" of chewing on our Friendly Cleric.)

Thanks folks! I'm afraid I'll be a bit late tonight, maybe by 30 or 40 mins because I'm coming back from visiting my pa and am at the whim and mercy of East Midlands Trains. I'll join you as soon as I can!

добрый вечер, comrades!

Some of the shocking revelations from last session:

Birmingham is a dump! surprised
Michael Bay films ruin people’s lives! surprised
A frying pan can be a potent weapon of terror! surprised
Young Ladies can have social lives entirely unrelated to RPGs! surprised

Nick also managed to sidetrack us several times during the evening with this game he’d brought – in which we explored further into the Haunted City of Tsar and found a huge statue of an unhappy-looking Storm Giant. Of course it wasn't actually a 'statue' but something else wanting to kill us all. Honestly it's like no-one in Tsar is pleased to see us at all. Anyway the battle did not go well: we very nearly had a PC perma-death, but the Most Exalted And Benevolent DM allowed our absentee Cleric to make a Guest Appearance to cast a just-in-time Heal Spell and disaster was narrowly averted! (Did I mention how cool Babylon 5 was?biggrin) Faced with this ass-whooping we employed our Tactical Engagement Distance Maximisation Manoeuvre. (We ran away.)

After licking our wounds (in most cases purely figuratively – it turns out that the Sorcerer is surprisingly supple) we attempted a stealthy assault over the southern walls into the ghetto area of Tsar but were immediately spotted by a group of Evil Hoodies who demanded we hand over our mobile phones and other valuables. Our patience with the bourgeois antics of these cheeky lower-class ruffians had pretty much frayed into non-existence so we hacked them to bits for a bit of light sport. Tally ho. The Evil Hoodie Leader, however, jumped onto his BMX and disappeared into the shadowy alleyways before we could catch him.

I am fairly sure that's what happened.

Next session: we blunder around aimlessly before being ambushed as the Evil Hoodie Leader Guy returns with reinforcements...

до свидания пока! biggrin

Nice write-up Tim.

Although, you bring up a slightly more serious issue for me. I've felt the balance of some of the sessions has slipped away from the gaming and into the hands of less related issues. I don't have anything against the jokes and side thoughts that arise naturally but for me it is starting to get to the level where it takes away from the game too much. I think less than an hour of a three hour session was spent in game at the session before christmas.

It is one of the trickier issues with slightly larger than usual groups and more downtime between turns. I try to the best of my ability to decide what I'm going to do next in this time, in the hope of allowing the next person to have their go sooner. Obviously this can't always be done because things change as more players react and change the environment.

I hope this isn't too much of a downer and I'm not having a go at anyone and I don't want there not to be the funny moments that we have. I just mainly want to go through closed doors, see what's there, probably blow them up with fireballs, and rise their corpses again to be my minions (if the paladin and cleric don't mind too much).

Nick, is the next session this week or next.

Next game is tomorrow.

Ding you make a good point about the amount of off game talking. Some of it enevitable (larger group higher level play meaning a fair amount of downtime between turns in combat).
One thing did cross my mind that might help speed combat up is if people (myself included) spent the time between their turns checking spell/feat descriptions so that when it came to there turn they were ready to act.

Ding posts: 204 United Kingdom

Maybe a 'safe' word or phrase is needed, if the torment of not gaming is getting too much anyone can use the safe word and everyone instantly returns to the game world, were it is safe and cosy.

All suggestions welcome for the safe word(s)?

Me saying "give me a benny"

Tonbo posts: 45

I am looking forward to tomorrow's game, though if I am honest I was disappointed with the amount of adventuring we did last game (I echo the above points), the size of the group may be partly to blame along with discipline- I suggest the cane should be brought back....only joking about the cane maybe a mace instead or rotten tomatoestwisted.

I don't want a totally serious game, as we have shared some great adventures interlaced with comedy moments (in and out of the game) and that was perfect however we have deviated slightly recently.

I suggest a toast now be made with copious amounts of ale: "to further adventuring arrow"

Despite my brain saying there will be a game tonight. My body has decided otherwise sad (think it failed a fort save vs something I ate).

As such I'm going to say the first game of the year is going to be pushed back a week.

Sorry about the late notice all.
