Slumbering Tsar game

Moving the talk of this game, into it's own thread.

As it stands there is me and three players. Would be good to have one more. [Although I'm kinda thinking that if Ginga is able to host he'd probably join us]

4 players is good with me numbers wise.

Basics of the adventure path:
Starting level: 7
Races: any of the races in the core book.
Classes: Any from Core/APG/Complete magic/Complete Warrior. [Although no Summoner or Gunslinger]
Starting cash: 23,500gp

This adventure is a sandbox like adventure. You have the area of The Desolation and the City of Tsar open to you to explore/plunder. You can choose were you go and in which order you do it in. [Although a gentle GM pointer do the area of The Desolation first then go to the City of Tsar]

Just a side note (to make it a little easier for me) your characters are members of the Pathfinder Society. [It is up to you if you want your characters to have worked together before or if you know each other prior to setting out]

Background:
Your characters have been given an job by the Pathfinder Society to investigate the region known as The Desolation, and the deserted city of Tsar.[They have pointed you to the hamlet called "The Camp" as a home base while in the area]
The society is particularly interested in this area for two reasons.

Firstly the old trade route that existed through The Desolation if made safe would mean that the Society would have a significant advantage in trade between the Inner Sea Region and Tian Xia.*

Secondly, the history's of this area report long ago that the (now deserted) city of Tsar was a city held by Orcus. There was a battle between the forces of light and the forces of Orcus, which changed the nature of The Desolation.

Given the history's there must surely be many interesting relics that should be claimed for the Society so that they can be stored safely and be kept out of the wrong hands. The society would also be interested in further information about the battles that happened here as the recorded histories have many gaps in them.

They have mentioned that if you are able to make The Desolation and the City of Tsar safe, they would need a capable group to set up a Pathfinder Society Lodge in the area, and perhaps run the area for the good of the Society.

  • A note, I am placing The Desolation in the area of the Inner Sea called The World Wound. The city that you would have been given this assignment in would be Bard's Gate.

Almort (Ding): Lich Sorcerer
Rondar (Ron): Magus. Now an NPC as he fell at the feet of Orcus in a dream.
Mehilainen Kirkas (Mel): Cleric. Sometimes known as "the one armed Bint"

The Pathfinder Society tends to attract adventures, whom seek fame, fortune, the joy of adventuring. And to get their names into the publications that the Society publishes.

I would point out that my use of the Pathfinder Society is also a useful hook for me to bring the characters together at the beginning of the adventure.

Epic story: yes there is one. (It will take you from 7th level to 20th level or just over. The 14 pdfs come cover about 800 pages).

"It will take you from 7th level to 20th level"

exclaim Actually that clarifies things a lot. And here I was trying to cram everything into a level 7 build...

Anyway thanks for volunteering to run this. Looking forward to Thursday!

Just to confirm: the plan is that we* turn up on Thursday with a character ‘concept’ and some general ideas about skills etc and then work out the details in the first session?

Cheers

(-* Excepting those away on Holy Cleric Business, of course biggrin )

Yes thats the plan.
If there is time we could do the inital encounter in The Camp as well.

Hey, someone's gotta save the heathens. :p

melociraptor posts: 86

Question: Are we riding or on foot?

melociraptor posts: 86

Another question for the DM: If I knock up a character sheet before Thursday, do you want to have it and either play my character yourself or have one of the others play her, or would you rather she was just absent and arrived later on?

If you want to get a mount then that's fine with me. (As your doing out door exploration then it makes sense to have a mount. If you wanted you could even have two and a cart).

If your wanting to put your character together and let me play it on Thursday it would make any encounters we play through a little easier.
Also could mean that story wise that you were with the party when they left for The Camp. (Rather than the stereotypical:
GM: you see a cleric across the bar
Party: you look trustworthy.. do you want to join us on a noble quest?)

melociraptor posts: 86

I have pre-emptively put a sheet together which I can email you if you PM me your address. You can maybe also point out how I could improve the character - having not played a cleric before I'm not sure which are the best feats, etc, to go for.

I will get a mount but with my Ride skill there's a very good chance I'll fall right off it.

I'll pm you my email now. I'll take a look over it when you send it over.

melociraptor posts: 86

Thanks, I've sent it now.

Ding posts: 204 United Kingdom

Hi there all,

Just to let you know my character will be taking the craft wonderous item feat, so I'll be able to get you some stuff half price.

Ding

Nice - I've taken Craft Magic Arms and Armor so together we can pimp ourselves right up.

I'm pretty set on the Paladin as a half-elf, however I am getting quite confused on what attributes to go for and whether going all out for strength and Cha is a good idea or not. I hope to have more of an idea for this Thursday but may need some added guidance then.

Tim the Enchanter posts: 123

Quick question for the DM: are we allowed equipment from the Ultimate Combat book (specifically Eastern weapons & armour) ?
Cheers.

Had a quick look through the Ultimate Combat weapons and armour. I dont see anything broken in them so I don't see why you cannot use them if you want.

(Although I may reserve the right to make you pronounce them correctly to be able to use them biggrin)

Tim the Enchanter posts: 123

Awesome, thanks.

"I may reserve the right to make you pronounce them correctly to be able to use them"

Gah! There is always a catch. Time to break out the old Ninja DVDs and turn the dubbing off I guess.

Arigatou gozaimashita, harper-san! razz cool

Now you have to show off your pronunciation round the gaming table razz

I've just uploaded the Slumbering Tsar history file into the files section of the site.

The next session should be in the calender shortly.

Great start. Looking forward to really getting my teeth into this adventure- and learning what aspects I should have chosen in place of the ones I have settled on.

Suggest we may need to consider tactics, as I think the running in and giving a giant a bash of low scoring hit points wasn't my best idea.
