The East Midlands Roleplayers Gaming Group (Formerly The East Midlands Roleplayers Meetup Group) has a new home.
Welcome to our new home. I hope you will find it as comfortable as the old home, if not at least in time even more comfortable and useful in providing a means to find your gaming fun.

Alan! We may have found our additional player.

Jake, there is a game (One I play in, run by Alan) that could do with another player. I don't think any of those involved would be averse to a completely new player in every sense. We'd need to know how mobile you are and whether Monday night would be open for you. Not being mobile is not necessarily a terminal barrier.

Wow Monday would be perfect for me actually.
I'm pretty reliant on public transport but I'm sure I can work something out

Alan posts: 321 United Kingdom

interesting, more later.

Alan posts: 321 United Kingdom

Okay so now is later and I've slept and everything. First things first - welcome to the group Jake.

As Len mentioned I am running a game at present and on the lookout for an extra players or two. At present we are playing advanced fighting fantasy which you are most welcome to join. I'll shoot you a personal message with some contact details and hopefully we can get you into the game this coming Monday and I am most happy to have totally new players so no worries there. If you have ever seen/played/read something involving swords, magic and goblins you know everything you are going to need.

That sounds brilliant!

@skerrigan @Jefferus
I'm still looking for a game in Leicester. See my previous post for what I'm looking for.

The thought occurs to me that I could host a game (Sunday through Wednesday evenings, or Tuesday afternoons), and you two are looking for a game in Leicester.

A related, though separate, idea is to play the playtest of D&D:Next (aka 5th edition) - Wizards of the Coast are releasing a bit at a time, collecting feedback, revising it, and releasing a bit more in a very iterative positive process. It strikes me that playing a game which has only got a small chunk of rules, options, character classes etc might be a good way to learn the game together as a group, and might be a good way for me to learn to be a DM/GM (I'd struggled at a previous attempt because there are so many rules).

Welcome Lee, lets hear a little about you since you managed to prove yourself human, quite admirably.

It is my great pleasure and privilege to welcome Chris back to the group. See you at the big meet Chris. cool

Hello everyone!

I'm CJ, I am at UNO in Leicester and have just started playing D&D 4e. I hope that I will be able to join in some of you other D&D players and have a good game. I am also willing to DM when I have got a grip with the rules.

CJ

Len posts: 1095 United Kingdom

Well, CJ, there is always room for one more budding DM no matter what the rules-set you use. I have a fondness for D&D. Have played, and even DM'd 4e, but my heart still belongs to 3.5. Even though I am happy to play almost anything and my DMing is not restricted to D&D.

There is always a strong contingent from Leicester who travel to the Big Meet in Derby every month. These days usually 2 or more cars make the journey, so I am fairly sure there would be room if you wanted. Its always best to get to know people in person. It just makes it more likely you will get a game together, and there is always something to play at the meet. Did I fail to mention Chilli Chips and cheese? Yes. I also failed to mention that The Brunswick is a micro-brewery.

Gamers, dice, good food, good beer, its all win.

Len

Len posts: 1095 United Kingdom

Welcome to Alex, its always good to get new blood in, and nice to hear that Vague Connections is still pointing people the right way.

I'll forego the usual hint towards attending the big meet in Derby at the Brunswick on the second Saturday of each month. Ooops, by avoiding it I seem to have mentioned it again. redface Oh, well. Force of habit I'm sure.

Lets hope you can get into a game fairly soon.

Len,

Yes, that place has always attracted geeks the way the carcass of a dead goblin teems with flies!

Laurent,

Hi there, my name's Willow and I'm pretty new to the whole roleplaying thing. Not through lack of trying, but I've been completely unable to find a local group for about four years, maybe a little longer. My partner and I are looking to find a group to play in locally and make new, like minded friends :-) So glad to have found this forum, clearly I should have just been typing random stuff into google a whole lot earlier!

Anyway, my partner and I are going to come to the meet up - hopefully - and look forward to taking part and hopefully meeting some new people and making friends!

-Will

Hi there Willow, and welcome to the group.

Based on the fact that you took the trouble to place yourself on the member map, I am going to guess that as soon as he notices your plea for games, Alan will be along to offer you a couple of places at the table. Its not really my place to offer, as he's the GM and host, but I think if you were mobile enough to get to and from Anstey on Monday evenings, you could be playing as early as Monday evening.

Now, if Alan would just see this and make it official please. razz

Time is always the enemy but yes Len is quite right. Possibly not this week depending on when you see this but soon certainly.

estelwillow posts: 2

"Soon" is certainly better than "never'' which is my previous experience!

And thank you, Len :-)

Hi all,
My name's Chris. I live in Derby and am interested in getting back into playing RPGs. I found this group with a google search and a quick look around the forum makes me think it's exactly what I was looking for.
I got into RPGs first through playing computer games like Baldur's Gate. I've played some 3rd edition DnD in the past, I was made to be the GM so I never really got to see the game from a PC's point of view. I haven't played any RPGs for quite a while, and I'm aware DnD have updated their rulesets significantly since then, so I've got some catching up to do. I also like to play board/card games when I get the chance, recently trying Mage Knight, King of Tokyo, and Netrunner.
I'll be coming along to the March Big Meet to see what its like.

Thanks,
Chris

Howdy Chris,

You've come to the right place - there's a lot of local roleplayers in Derby, and the Big Meet is a great place to meet them.

There should be a large D&D game and I'm hoping to get a couple of players for a Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay playtest I'd like to do.

Stu

Alan posts: 321 United Kingdom

What Skerrigan said. If I recall correctly this months big meet is in the parlour of the Brunswick which is the pokey corner type room on the ground floor immeadiately to your right assuming you come in through the main street entrance.

You won't have any problems finding something to play at the big meet and would expect joining or forming a group in Derby would be eminently achievable too.

Welcome to the group!
