The East Midlands Roleplayers Gaming Group (Formerly The East Midlands Roleplayers Meetup Group) has a new home.
Welcome to our new home. I hope you will find it as comfortable as the old home, if not at least in time even more comfortable and useful in providing a means to find your gaming fun.

Coolcat,

Further to our discussion at the shop earlier on today, have a look and post in this thread about Slumbering Tsar and enquire about joining.

Tim is also a Pathfinder RPG newcomer, even though he is a pro at board-games on our Monday evening at Vague Connections. smile

Laurent,

Alan posts: 321 United Kingdom

or, and this may be a bit out of field for some people - play one of the games that is not dnd.

Just saying.

And what Len said about lifts to the big meet, I'm one of the gaggle of drivers in Leicester who usually gets to the meets. Happy to take people with me. And bring them back.

Laurent posts: 1029 United Kingdom

Do not listen to Alan!

There is D&D* or there is NOTHING exclaim

* or its evolutions such as its OGL systems, including Pathfinder RPG.

Len posts: 1095 United Kingdom

Further to Laurent's comment. wink
The various denominations of NOTHING exclaim Include, but are not limited to, such things as Zombie apocolypse, Star Wars, Warhammer Roleplaying, Non-D&D fantasy settings like Lord of the Rings, Battlestar Galactica, Judge Dread, Ghost Busters, Super Powers, Etc, Etc. The list goes on seemingly forever.

Check out our Library for example. lol Where members may take games on loan, or deposit games they have no current use for. (But don't want to chuck them away.)

Hello, my name is Adam. I live in Hucknall and am a big fan of RPG's and board games. I have played 3.5/Pathfinder for over 2 and a half years, as well as several sessions of Call of Cthulhu, Little Fears, 4th Ed. and a couple of others. I am hoping to find a nice group to join since moving away from my previous group, or possibly just a group of people who enjoy a good boardgame.

Many thanks,
Adam

Alan posts: 321 United Kingdom

Hello and welcome Adam, Hucknall is a bit far perhaps for myself being all Leicester based but we do have a good number of folk in and around Nottingham. I'm sure Laurent will provide a refresher on the goings on in the area if you've not already seen such in his past posts. Basically I know they have at least pretty regular board games and pathfinder sessions going on and that is just the stuff folk talk about, I daresay there are ample other games going on with less group members who are not so vocal here.

As ever the best possible course of action if you are able is try and get along to the groups monthly big get together over in Derby. The next one is in June and details are all linked to here but in short it is the 2nd Saturday each month. Same time, same place. It is a lovely way to meet folk from across our catchment area and usually there will be someone there at least close to local for you who will know more about what is going. There is games and food and brewed on site beverages too so it is hard to find fault with the whole affair cool

Laurent posts: 1029 United Kingdom

Adam,

Welcome to the society.

Sorry about not responding earlier, as Alan has just mentioned, my previous posts in this thread are still valid; being lazy I shall merely tell you to look at them for the technical details. smile

Board-game wise, we have indeed a regular session on Monday evenings at Vague Connections, the game shop on Derby Street.

As for Pathfinder games, as the earlier posts say, we cannot guarantee you a place in any ongoing campaign, but there is always the possibility of short adventures as part of the Pathfinder Society games being run at the shop.

Laurent,

ymaster44 posts: 34 United Kingdom

Thanks very much for all the welcomes.

I'm going to try and make it to the board game sessions at VC, probably next week (got the day off!). Is there anything I need to do to 'book' a place or other such thing? Or is it just turn up and play? And is there anyone worth introducing myself to first?

Sorry for the questions, but I'd like this to go right!

Many thanks, Adam

Laurent posts: 1029 United Kingdom

Adam,

Well, there is the matter of having an EMRPGG tattoo on the left buttocks, the sacrifice of your firstborn and a secret handshake to learn; but I guess you can get spared all that for the first gaming session. surprised

Just show-up from around six, we never know how many people we get beforehand, we can have three tables or a one game of Arkham Horror only going on, depending on the week. We usually stop play around ten o'clock. The format is sort of as follow:

  • Short games while waiting for more people to show-up. Games such as "Braggart", "Settlers of Catan", "Inn Fighting", "Bang!", etc..
  • Main games/longer games afterwards.

The thread to watch is this one.

If you have a game you want to play, just bring it and see if there are any takers. The games listed on the Board-games at Vague Connections page are available if the owner shows-up and they are told to bring it. The "Vague Connections' games" entries are of course always available.

Well a quick hello. I have been about here and there before so not entirely new but work and other stuff tended to get in the way. Only rpg stuff Ive got at the moment is a box full of 1st ed WFRP inc doomstones and the whole f the enemy within campaign from start to finish plus a few other add ons. Id love to find a group to play them but as ive not even played them from start to finish and prefer to pc would prefer not to GM. I also like cthullu and gurps. Im a noob when it comes to d & d. Ive a few boardgames (ticket to ride, smallworld etc.

I can probably host on the odd sat or sunday dependant on when the mrs is working as well.

Graham.

Laurent posts: 1029 United Kingdom

Graham,

Welcome to the group.

The sating of your gaming needs mostly depends on where you are based and up to where you are willing to travel.

I am not at all into WFRPG myself, but the system is played at the Big Meet, not sure which edition though.

As far as board-games are concerned, if you are living around Nottingham, see one of my previous posts in this thread for the weekly sessions on Mondays at Vague Connections. Alan may also have something going on at his place every now and then.

Laurent,

laurent,

Im based in ilkeston. So Derby or Nottingham obviously ilkeston, mansfield etc are all good.

Len posts: 1095 United Kingdom

Alan has strangely not leapt in to castigate Laurent for overlooking the fact that BCGA is on the calendar almost every Friday, and that all are welcome. So I will take the opportunity to simply state the obvious without railing on Laurent for his oversight. twisted

Board & Card Games at Alan's place is what the title means I believe. I am a regular there, and it is within very easy reach of the M1 J21. (I usually go straight there from work, via that fine motorway junction.rolleyes)

tbh vague is better for me in terms of boardgames as leics is bit far etc. In terms of roleplaying would like to find a regular group playing something other than dnd (im not anti dnd just would prefer a non grid type game etc and a bit more rleplaying game) so cthullu, gurps,WFRP this would be my ultimate as ive loads of material ive not really got to play (at least not for 20 years:p). As per my previous post I can do derby or notts, mansfield etc.

Arkenar posts: 12 United Kingdom

Hi, just found this group randomly searching google.

Im pretty much completely new to the whole roleplaying thing - though i did play tabletop stuff such as Warhammer a few years ago, and enjoy the odd board game - Arkham horror, Battlestar Galactica, Last Night on Earth etc.

Im from the city centre of nottingham so if anyone has a game that they wouldn't mind someone new joining or wanting to teach some basic rules etc would be much appreciated.

skerrigan posts: 142 United Kingdom

@GaretGax I've been known to run the odd WFRP2E one-off, and I have a campaign I'd love to run. Also Paladin here is a devotee of the Third Edition. If you come along to one of the Big Meets in Derby I'm sure we could accomodate you.

Laurent posts: 1029 United Kingdom

James,

Welcome to EMRPGG.

Since you are the third or fourth newest member from Nott'm of late, being lazy, I shall direct you to some of my earlier posts in this thread.

For your board-game needs, go to this thread. Vague Connections is the game-shop up Derby Road, more or less across from St Barnabas Cathedral.

As you will see from the latest posts, BSG was played on Monday. Arkham Horror has had a cult status of late, and to be honest we are taking a bit of a break from it at the moment, but it shall definitely be back on the menu! twisted

Hello I'm Andy a new member living in Market Harborugh, Leicestershire and looking for a local game

Laurent posts: 1029 United Kingdom

Andy,

Welcome to the group.

I am based in Nottingham, so cannot be really of any help in your case.
Len or Alan may pipe in later about games in Leicester. I know, it is not exactly "next door" for you, but still beats Nottingham or Derby.

Laurent,

Len posts: 1095 United Kingdom

We have people come to games in Leicester from as far afield as Walsall and Corby, so we are no strangers to people from 'The Sticks'. I'm not sure what games have free spaces, but there is a Monday Game run by Alan that has only three players. ...

No promises mind.

Len
