Well, I am a fairly lenient guy, but you are a noob. I would honestly suggest you roll up a character using what is called the 4 drop 1 method. and also bring a blank sheet so you can try rolling up and assembling your character with the help of others the first time. Provided your rolls are believable, I would be willing to accept them.
4 drop 1 means that you roll 4 D6, and discard the lowest one, adding the other three up and write down the number. You repeat this six times until you have six numbers in the range 3 - 18. Then you allocate these numbers to the six stats in whatever order you want, and continue from there.
I know from the two other interested parties that they would be happy to offer good advice, and the DM might be able to remain impartial too after all these years.
