7th sea game: "For Science!"

Both those references are lost on me (*hands in geek card*), and youtube can only provide me with Buffy/Giles montages, but I see he's played by Anthony Head, so I think that gives me some idea.

There would be minor official roles in the Vaticine Church (perhaps something to do with messengers/communications), or Customs and Revenue, local government, the university, the docks, or managing some aspect of Don Bosco's affairs. Some kind of minor supervisory role around communications (Vaticine Post Office?) would give the character a broad range of contacts. But perhaps, while gifted, he doesn't have the patronage required to further his career, and perhaps there's something of a black mark against his name (possibly memorabilia related) blocking his progress. I haven't really fleshed out much about the starting city yet or even named it, so it's all fairly open. The idea of an early memorabilia collector is an interesting one.

What's not clear is why he's a hero, or why he'll become a hero (if he doesn't know it yet). One way to build the character might be to give him little in the way of special or unique skills, but give him better stats and skills as a consequence. Another might be to build a form of sorcery or power from the items. Glamour (the Avalonian sorcery) is based around legendary figures and their supernatural abilities, and it wouldn't be a stretch to have a character who can do similar things based on memorabilia.... or to believe that his strange powers result from possessing certain things. Perhaps that might be a correct belief, or perhaps he's half-Avalonian, a fact that's always held him back. (Avalon not only has its own heretic church, but its pirates are plundering Castillian merchant shipping in the Western Isles - the armada was fairly recent).

"Collector" is a really good arcana, and I like the idea of a character who's more "Administration and Accountancy" than "Dungeons and Dragons", but we need to know what kind of hero he's going to be, even if he doesn't yet.
