I do actually have a copy of the core book - just need to read it a bit more closely...
So the spear and armour would actually put me a little over the 10,500gp allowance, plus of course I would need to get a backpack, lantern, and other basic adventuring gear - so I can scale it back a bit if you want, I don't mind going for just a regular suit of Full Plate.
I had forgotten about the sins too - still don't know what they are for, but I remember the DM making a thing about it when someone 'earned' one.
Really looking forward to this game as I have been wanting to contiune playing these modules for sometime now
