Excellent - good to have a bit of background....

Tariq al-Hassan (I think, can't remember his second name!) is a lawful neutral cleric of Abadar, the god of cities, wealth, merchants, and law. His family owned a stall in the Lower City Bazaar of the great city of Katapesh, selling high quality leather goods designed by his father and manufactured by slaves in his uncle's sweat shop. As a boy, Tariq would watch in awe as the priests of Abadar went about their work, maintaining order amidst chaos, settling violent disputes with a word or two, regulating trade in the interests of trade, in the interests of the city and of civilization itself. His parents, devotees of Abadar themselves, encouraged him in his ambitions to join their order, and Tariq moved to the temple at 14.

Now in his early 20s, Tariq finds himself restlessly ambitious. He thoroughly enjoys the status that his role gives him, but the reality of day-to-day work in what is essentially Trading Standards is starting to lose its lustre. He jumped at the opportunity to join the expedition to reclaim a piece of civilisation and reopen an important trade route - he has little doubt that he has the potential to do more, and in turn, claim the status and rewards that are due to a senior and honoured Priest of Abadar. It might be thought that Tariq's only true god is his ambition, and in a funny way, that's true - Tariq sees devotion to Abadar and (lawful) personal ambition has pretty much the same thing.

Although rather self-important, vain, and status-obsessed, with little sympathy for the idle, ignorant. feckless, or useless, he is also reasonably tolerant and open minded. True, that Barbarian is a... well, Barbarian... but he possess precisely one skill, which he is selling - to his benefit and to the benefit of all. He won't know it, but he's advancing the cause of civilisation. His dark god, his proclivities, and his libido are entirely his own business as long as the law is observed, contracts honoured, and trade protected. Freedom in the silence of the law. Better to have his kind in the tent pissing out, than outside pissing in. High wisdom and decent charisma mean that he's quite good at getting along with allies of convenience.

I can't make it next week, but some tictactical stuff for Tariq....

If there's time, he'll cast shield of faith (+2 AC deflection bonus) before entering combat, and possibly longstrider (+10 base move) as his domain spell if there's time. His first domain is travel, which gives him a +10 to base move, which means he can move 30ft even though he's in medium armour (40 with longstrider). Travel domain also allows him to ignore difficult terrain for a round as a free action. 40ft base move plus selective channel should allow him to channel positive energy to heal allies but not enemies.

The Inevitable domain allows Tariq to cast 'command' a certain number of times per day. Will save is 14. He can use this to make enemies approach/drop item/flee/halt/fall prone. He can use this for crowd control (flee), forcing enemies to provoke AoO (flee/approach), lose AC (fall), or to stop fleeing enemies. He can only use this skill one per enemy per day.

His second spell was going to be Bless, but I don't think that's needed because of our Bard. Perhaps 'Bane' instead if we think we're against a large group of critters, or a second shield of faith spell for another frontline fighter. Maybe protection from evil or chaos if we know for sure we're up against that.

Tariq has decent strength and AC (especially with SoF), so will go frontline melee if needed. His high base move may help for flanking....

Try to keep him alive :-)
