New Meetup: Red Box D&D Game Day at Mondo Comico

posts: 27

To celebrate the release of the new Red Box set, Mondo Comico is hosting the D&D Game Day. This is ideal for people who have never played D&D before, so if you only play other RPGs come along and try it. Spread the word to your non-D&D playing friends!

Adventure blurb:
Sunderpeak Temple
Long a bastion of good on the edges of the wilderness, Sunderpeak Temple has succumbed to an unknown threat. You have been tasked to journey to the site of the temple and find out what has befallen its residents, as the priests are needed to destroy an enchanted skill imbued with necromantic magic. Will you face down the dark denizens that dwell within and learn the truth of the temple’s fate? A Dungeons & Dragons adventure designed for 4-6 pregenerated characters of 2nd level.

11th September 2010
Table 1 starts at 11am
Table 2 starts at 2pm

I'm guessing characters will be: Fighter, Cleric, Rogue, Wizard and two others

Unfortunately, the day clashes with the monthly meetup, but I don't think WotC would move the date for us...

Will definitely be available to run the 2nd game. Hopefully, we'll have enough peeps that I can play a bit in the 1st one as well as really fancy "playtesting" this version of the Red Box.

Will someone please ask Mondo Comico if we can have a copy after the event, to run it for the group at a monthly meet. More than happy to have it run with prominent Mondo's signs Etc., to provide additional exposure for them. We have done similar things before. Also, if an additional pack is available, it could even be offered at the September meet if it were arranged in time.

Hi Len,

WotC seem to be getting very tight these days. For the Dark Sun game day, they only sent one adventure booklet, despite the kit being for 2 games to be run. They also sent the pre-generated characters as a PDF to me, rather than already printed out in the kit (I'm hoping this was actually a msitake rather than new policy).

Obviously if this is repeated, there won't be a chance for the meetup to run the adventure as we will be struggling to get both games at Mondo Comico running.

I'll ask David about the adventure being run at the October meetup.

Cheers,

Paul

Thanks Paul.
WotC certainly appear to have a mind all thier own.

Yup. I agreed with their decision not to include minis in game day kits as I could see how they would be expensive to include, but when they start expecting me to print stuff out just so I can run the game for them, I do start questioning why I do it.

Although I did get a 4E version of Tomb of Horrors, for organising the events, which I am going to have fun running my players through. twisted That makes a good Evil DM Grin emoticon

Len,

Will gladly send you any Red Box stuff I get electronically (like the PDF pre-gens) that we had to use for the Dark Sun day. We can also try to shove something into "the library" for later use. Although in this mostly paperless environment it too maybe PDF.

Maybe a file store is something we could work on as a group for this new site.

Fuuny you should mention the pre-gens. Here they are.

They are supposed to look "classic", with the yellow backgrounds. However, my visual impairment makes it difficult for me to read these sheets. Somebody on Twitter has removed the yellow backgrounds and replaced them with white. He has uploaded them here.

The 6 Pre-gens are:
* Halfling Thief
* Elf Thief
* Dwarf Fighter
* Human Fighter
* Human Cleric
* Elf Wizard

Paul,

As there are two thieves I'd like to play one of them in your 11am game. It means when I inevitably die to go to that other gaming table across the room that the group shouldn't suffer too much (at least if we can get a full house that early in the morning) :o)

posts: 27

That's great. It means I can spend the next couple of weeks plotting how to kill off your character.

All suggestions welcomed biggrin

So far we have 4 people confirmed for Table 1 with the Wizard and one of the thiefs taken.

One person confirmed for Table 2.

I am hoping to get at least one person along that has never played D&D before, as this seems a perfect opportunity to show new people the game.

Or even for someone who has never played 4E D&D before, but has played other editions.

I've cross posted on Facebook as well as there are a couple people I know who were interested but, who don't seem excited about joining the forum at the moment.

Table 1 is now full (a couple of people signed up in store).

There are still plenty of spots available for the afternoon game.

@Len,

Unfortunately, Wizards have done the same this time as last. They have provided no hardcopy pre-gens and have provided only one hardcopy DMs bit which contains the adventure itself. Paul is checking to see if he can get it in PDF somehow and if so we can investigate the idea of adding it to the "library" virtual or otherwise.

Hi,

is there a fighter available for the afternoon game?

posts: 27

Hi,

Yes there are two fighters. There is a Dwarf fighter and a Human Fighter. I don't think either have been claimed so far for the afternoon game.

Great - I don't mind playing either biggrini'm looking forward to some dice rolling (it's been too long, I'm having withdrawals lol)

I'll set the human fighter aside for you marie. She's got a two-handed sword and everything.
