The June 2014 Meet

Bruce_C posts: 180 United Kingdom

This is the discussion thread for our June 2014 Meet on Saturday 14th.

The relevant calendar pages are:

The Social

The Afternoon Session

The Evening Session

If you are:

A player.

  • Discuss the games on offer and what, if anything, you need to prepare.
  • Ask kindly if someone else could run a game for you. Demand could create offer after all.
  • Discuss other arrangements: Are you travelling far? Need a lift? What eating arrangements are in place? Other than a bag of crisps there is currently no food available at the Barley Mow but the management are happy for us to bring stuff in as long as we are taking liquid refreshment from the bar!

A GM

  • Describe the game you want to run here. We can also help you create a game page on the site which can link to the calendar and it's own forum thread if you wish.
  • Will your game be a 'one off' single session or part of a campaign? One off games are more accessible and work well at meets, though there is nothing stopping you running a campaign or regular game.
  • If you're running a single session consider bringing pre generated characters. This will help get the game started quickly and allow people to drop right in!

A new member or a simple observer.

We do not bite, so post away! Let us know you're coming so we can look out for you but anyone is welcome to turn up and play or just join us for a pint (or a coke) and a chat.

This is the original post, people are invited to propose games as soon as possible to allow players some choice and time to make up their minds.

F.A.Q.?

There is a page of general information about The Big Meet yes.

Sticky.

This thread will remain as a "sticky" until the this Big Meet has passed, then it will become a normal thread again. After that, you will still be able to comment on the event, but entropy should ensure the thread's slow death and let the newer thread for the current Big Meet take centre stage.

The keen eyed amongst you will notice I've taken the liberty of removing the adjective 'Big' from the thread title - the last meet I attended was only three folk and I suspect no one showed up in May at all (both Len and myself had other commitments) However I'm not working this month and would very much like to enjoy a pint and a game...

I'm quite happy to run something if we can get three or four folk to commit to play. I'm really enjoying Dungeon Crawl Classics RPG at the moment and I'd be happy to run a level 0 character funnel for this, alternatively I could relatively easily run Firefly RPG and I've still not got around to trying Savage Worlds which I picked up a few months ago. As a player I'm up for trying anything if anyone else has the urge to run a game.

Hope to see some of you there.

Cheers,

Bruce

It's just occurred to me that the 'game with the round ball' has some sort of big month long competition in Brazil. The England game doesn't kick off until late Saturday night but I suspect there will be much merriment in the hours preceding and I expect the pub will be busy.

My plan is to rock up to the pub about 1pm and loiter for a short while. If enough folk turn up to play and want to play I'll have pre gens and stuff to kick off (see what I did there?) a short but fun DCC game - ideally 4+ players plus but it could run with three. I'll need to make a pretty prompt exit by about 4:30pm.

If you're up for playing it would be great to know in advance. Of course I'm open to other games too if anyone has other ideas but due to the lack of posts I'm thinking ahead.

Well, we got our pints but no gaming. The 'monthly meet' is effectively dead unless others show an interest in reviving it at a later date.

I haven't been on here in forever, but i would be interested if another takes place (though not sundays as thats occasionally a problem for me). don't really have a lot of RPG experience but would like to find a group to play D&D, pathfinder, cthulu, cyberpunk, pretty much anything really.

So is Saturday a better game day for you then Arky?

Arkenar posts: 12 United Kingdom

Saturdays are pretty ideal for me - there will be occasions where i have to go play a show on a sat night but generally its one of the easier days to work around. I hadn't been on here in ages or i would have attempted to attend some of these - though this last one fell during Download festival which i was performing at so didn't see it.

What's your bands name out of interest?

Incinery. We played the doghouse stage in the camp area Thursday night. If you are into that kind of thing we have some local Nottingham stuff coming up and bloodstock festival soon
