The January 2014 Big Meet

Bruce_C posts: 180 United Kingdom

Dear Members,

This is the discussion thread for our January 2014 Big Meet.

Obviously, you need to have a look at:

The Social

The Afternoon Session

The Evening Session

You are:

A player.

  • Discuss the games on offer, what you need to prepare, anything really.
  • Ask kindly if someone else could run a game for you. Demand could create offer after all.

A GM

  • Describe the game you want to play here in addition to what is to be found on your game page.
  • Ask for advice on how to format your game page.
  • Ask the Organising Team member in charge of the event to put your game on the sign up page and linkify everything that needs be linkified, such as a particular game thread in the forum or your game page for instance. Members of the Organising Team should be able to modify the calendar event and tracker pages to include their own games, but I can do it for them too if need be.

A new member or a simple observer.

We do not bite, so post away.

And for all of the above, you can discuss transport issues here too.

This is the original post, people are invited to propose games as soon as possible to allow players some choice and time to make up their minds.

F.A.Q.?

There is a page of general information about The Big Meet yes.

Hint.

"No game, thus no play makes us pretty dull boys" (and girls), so do not be shy and run something!

Sticky.

This thread will remain as a "sticky" until the this Big Meet has passed, then it will become a normal thread again. After that, you will still be able to comment on the event, but entropy should ensure the thread's slow death and let the newer thread for the current Big Meet take centre stage.

Alan, Len et al I hope I've got the thread/calendar updates right!

If I make this meet it will be my fourth in a row, practically a miracle with my work roster!

Cheers,

Bruce

Alas I shall not be making the first Big Meet of the new year, as I mentioned before it's the same day as mine and my step nanny's birthday, so I'll be expected elsewhere for that weekend. Although I also said I wouldn't manage to make the December Big Meet either, but that turned out to be a categoric lie, as evidenced by me actually turning up! But you may all rest assured that this is not a repeat thereof. I'll see all you lovely folks in February.

I have a True20 game with pre-gens ready to run. It's a Sci-Fi scenario.

I've just noticed on Facebook (it's useful for something after all!) that there has been a change of management at The Barley Mow. Is anyone able to get into town and check we're still welcome on Saturday? Unfortunately I'm working for the rest of the week.

I'll see what I can manage. I'll also ask Leah if she can pop by and check for us.

That's great.

I don't imagine we'll be turned away but I suppose it's possible they might not want us upstairs and with a Tigers match potentially on the telly it might get busy/noisy downstairs.

Here's hoping we don't have to start looking for another venue.

Leah says they were closed this afternoon until tomorrow. eek

Well guess it's a bit late to change, I'll be there from 1pm ish but as usual won't be able to play late.

All went well.
The new management were as helpful as the previous ones. Keen to see us flourish and see perfectly the logic of bringing in custom without charging for the room. We are booked for the second Saturday of every month for the foreseeable future. They are hoping to be doing food by the next (February) Big Meet, but if they don't get it arranged we are OK to bring in our own food.

They are arranging their menu, and when I mentioned it, Chilli Chips and Cheese was agreed to be a great menu option. The manager has a restaurant background.

We are on a roll. All we need now is to gradually grow the numbers.

Maybe we can poach the kitchen staff? That seemed to work at the last place...

Bruce_C posts: 180 United Kingdom

Thanks for running a fun game Len, I really enjoyed it.

It's great that the pub is supportive too it would be good to grow the numbers, there is certainly plenty of space for more games!

Thanks to you guys for letting me test my scenario. It showed me a couple of places that I needed to work out more accurately. The ship is not actually as large as I guessed at. I gave you wrong numbers of decks by quite a lot. However pretty much everything else was spot on. It was supposed to be fun. MR. Armed to the teeth and armoured like a main battle tank got you close to annihilated, but I think the surprise party joke by Stuart playing the Scots Jock made people think on the less lethal train just in time.

I had a good long chat with the new manager and I think we may well end up with converts Charlie.
