The September 2013 Big Meet

Alan posts: 321 United Kingdom

Dear Members,

NB Please check the members forum for further important discussion on this Big meet!

This is the discussion thread for our September 2013 Big Meet.

Obviously, you need to have a look at:

The Social

The Afternoon Session

The Evening Session

You are:

A player.

  • Discuss the games on offer, what you need to prepare, anything really.
  • Ask kindly if someone else could run a game for you. Demand could create offer after all.

A GM

  • Describe the game you want to play here in addition to what is to be found on your game page.
  • Ask for advice on how to format your game page.
  • Ask the Organising Team member in charge of the event to put your game on the sign up page and linkify everything that needs be linkified, such as a particular game thread in the forum or your game page for instance. Members of the Organising Team should be able to modify the calendar event and tracker pages to include their own games, but I can do it for them too if need be.

A new member or a simple observer.

We do not bite, so post away.

And for all of the above, you can discuss transport issues here too.

This is the original post, people are invited to propose games as soon as possible to allow players some choice and time to make up their minds.

F.A.Q.?

There is a page of general information about The Big Meet yes.

Hint.

"No game, thus no play makes us pretty dull boys" (and girls), so do not be shy and run something!

Sticky.

This thread will remain as a "sticky" until the this Big Meet has passed, then it will become a normal thread again. After that, you will still be able to comment on the event, but entropy should ensure the thread's slow death and let the newer thread for the current Big Meet take centre stage.

.
I'm afraid I'll have to miss this one, I'll be on holiday by the seaside.

Len posts: 1095 United Kingdom

I shall be in a field. I will be roleplaying, but there will be precious few tables anywhere near me and I will not be rolling many dice, if any at all.

Have fun without me.

Len

Attention

Alright folks, no Chris, No Len, Phil has told me he won't be there either means numbers are looking seriously thin for this one. Combined with the charge we are now expected to pay for use of the venue I am proposing the September big meet be cancelled. I'll give everyone the chance to weigh in on the subject before taking any action but next weekend I'll call to cancel the booking I made last night. As it stands maybe 4 people will be showing up. If that is the case neither Lucee nor I shall bother thank you very much. I strongly suspect this means the September big meet will not go ahead. The venue is unavailble for the October big meet so another venue needs to be found if the October big meet is to happen. Please refer to the members only forum if you have not already for some more information on changes to the big meet.

So in summary - save the september big meet, yay or nay?

I'll turn up if it's not cancelled.

Alan posts: 321 United Kingdom

I figured it would probably be Yourself, Charlie, Lucee and I. Not the big meets finest hour...

Len posts: 1095 United Kingdom

Actually, two of my Armagada players will be in the same field, with potentially as many as four other players that I regularly game with. I might be able to run something in the in-game tavern. Roleplayers, roleplaying a roleplaying game. It could happen.

Hey, shame about this being cancelled, I might've shown up, but given the uncertainties over the venue I was a floating voter.

What is the world coming to!?
It is unusual that the Big Meet is not going to take place.

Just me and thee and a fee, Lee.
There might only be myself and Lee in attendance and there is now the charge for the venue to consider.

Free Skerree n' Lucee n'... Al-ee?
Skerrigan, Lucee and Alan are not likely to attend in that case.

Ahhgh! Alan you've spoiled it damn you! Sorry, damn yee!
Oh dear! Making Alan's name rhyme with an 'ee' sound does not work very well. How unfortunate.

And if Lenny, Philly and Chrissy be already down as being out, as in not coming anyway best cancel the thing,
Len, Phil and Chris have already mentioned that they will not be attending this Big Meet, so cancelling it is a viable option.

but at least we can rest easy knowing somewhere, somehow, somewho? Len could coerce some unwitting folk into maintaining the spirit of the Meet.
Len might play a tabletop RPG while LARPing.

Be like when Sports Day gets cancelled so you go play footie over the park with your mates...
Instead of an organised gaming event, Len will engage in an impromptu, but similar activity.

Don't fret though, footie down the park is all well and good, but there's always another Sports Day to look forward to.
Do not worry. Impromptu gaming will suffice on this occasion, but the Big Meet will occur as normal on its next scheduled date.

As analogies go, I think I can honestly say that was one...
I compared the Big Meet to Sports Day. That is a comparison.

I must admit Charlie I've read your post 3 times and I have no idea what you're on about. confusedbiggrin I guess this is what people feel when they listen to me.

If you're saying we should do some gaming anyway this weekend at another alternative venue, I've got some WFRP: Tales of Marienburg one-shots I was planning to bring, or I could even bust my copy of Warhammer Quest out for some 3D tabletop dungeon romping fun. Otherwise I'll save it for November... can't make next month, working. *sniff*

Thanks o god of sarcasm.

You know the old adage that 'Many a true word is spoken in jest'?

Well, after I posted my little jest, I got to thinking how it might work. Well, one thing leads to another and before you know it, the whole joke has taken seed, sprouted, grown up quickly and is already setting fruit. I have the blessing of the organisers of the LARP, and the enthusiasm, if not downright glee of many players. It WILL happen.

I am now definitely running a game. So there will be roleplayers, roleplaying their characters roleplaying a roleplaying game, in a tavern, in a field and all in character. The danger is that with all that recursion, we might break the universe; the real universe, not the in-game, game universe.

The Orc sat at the table in the tavern, frowning at what the old Elf had said. "My character, the female undead mage, attacks the darkness. She casts fireball."
The old wood elf DM says "Your fireball illuminates the darkness and for a brief time you see what looks like a Gazebo looming out of the darkness."
