Reaper Miniatures 'Kickstarter' Project

Bruce_C posts: 180 United Kingdom

Yes, I'm still here and still lurking. I am beginning to suspect a conspiracy as having not worked weekends for a couple of years as soon as I started to make time for gaming again I find my presence is required at work two weekends out of four.

Anyway, I digress! I noticed Reaper minis are running a kickstarter project get gather funding which offers some good value packs of minis in exchange for your support. I've pledged $20 USD in P&P (approx £13) which will get me 36 minis (Goblins, Kobolds and Rats) which I will probably never get around to painting.

Might be worth a look for some here

Reaper Minis on Kickstarter

Cheers,

Bruce

The $125 one is awesome value - over 120 miniatures and more keep getting added. Tempted to pledge but I can't paint for toffee.

Alan posts: 321 United Kingdom

it is a heck of a lot of minis for not very much money. Some crackers in there too. I've got a bucket of lead in need of painting already and to be fair very little use for any of them other than a love of toys but I rather wish I could partake.

Len posts: 1095 United Kingdom

Just because no one seems to have pointed this out, though it is explicit on the Kickstarter pages. All the new Kickstarter 'Bone' minis are apparently high quality plastic and will therefore not contribute significantly to your bucket of lead.

I personally have no problem with plastic minis, but I know it will upset some 'purists'. They are also working very much hand in glove with Pathfinder on this project.

Heroquest being my gateway drug into RPGs I view plastics as the 'purist' choice... biggrin

I have pledged and if there are bits of the 150 odd miniatures people want I'm happy to redistribute. I doubt I'll have much use for the more modern-era miniatures like the Chronoscope. I primarily wanted the medieval ones.

Alan posts: 321 United Kingdom

well those are exactly the minis that most caught my eye and left me thinking if the mix had been reversed I'd have had a much harder time saying no. When it all comes through ping me and we'll see how weak and monied I'm feeling biggrin

Bruce_C posts: 180 United Kingdom

I've never really had an issue with plastic either, I was painting Airfix Spitfires and some second hand Napoleonic soldiers before I ever discovered D&D.

The minis won't be here 'till March but you can expect me at a big meet then, ready to run an ill prepared Old School game featuring some badly painted Kobolds and giant rats!

This is enough minis to see me through the rest of my life and then some. I don't think I can turn it down.

The issue is the optional extras!

skerrigan posts: 142 United Kingdom

Apparently you can swap out the metal Sophie mini for $25 of extra stuff after the kickstarter's over. In other words, 3 Mythos Monsters, 6 Deep Ones and a massive Dragon/Jabberwock is $2 more than a metal succubi on a motorbike... hmmmm... I wonder which of those would be more use in an RPG :-)

Ding posts: 204 United Kingdom

According to this. If you buy all the mini's available seperately in metal they'd cost over $1000.

skerrigan posts: 142 United Kingdom

Well, that was fun to watch.

The $3mill goal didn't thrill me (a random PDF, but by that time they were running out of content to give over). However I'd been after the townsfolk and pirates for WFRP and they all look like beautiful sculpts.

I'm even tempted to use next months gaming budget to alter my pledge and get some of the addons. Reaper will be launching their own pledge software to allow you to tell them the addons you desire, and allow you to raise your pledge to buy last minute addons like the 8 inch Cthulhu for $10. As long as you pledged already you're golden!

Cthulhu for $10, 2 Dragons for $15. A massive bone dragon and elf. $10 for 2 Demons. Sweeet.

Len posts: 1095 United Kingdom

Hmmm. The Cthulhu does not look to be the best model of the deep one that has ever been made. Maybe its because its only the sketch that is shown, and the model itself will be better in actual 3D. It will be interesting to see if it is.

Len

skerrigan posts: 142 United Kingdom

$10 man. $10. Though to be fair the Mythos monster version looks pretty tasty. Did you pledge Len?

No. Alas I am finding myself having to rein in my impulse to buy that lovely bunch of minis. I can't claim to NEED them Also I can't see the money not being needed for more pressing things. You know, food, shoes. That kind of thing

what is it with miniatures trying to drag my bank balance to hell:

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1359565526/low-life-miniatures

Now admittedly low life a bunch of you won't even have heard of and those that have will probably just have suffered the misfortune of I frothing about it which does overall give it significantly more narrow scope in how often these minis will be used. But the love of an action hero sentient twinky roll with a bad attitude I would love to shower this with money and own the lot.
