The July 2012 Big Meet

Laurent posts: 1029 United Kingdom

Dear Members,

This is the discussion thread for our July 2012 Big Meet.

Obviously, you need to have a look at:

The July 2012 Social

The Afternoon Session

The Evening Session

You are:

A player.

  • Discuss the games on offer, what you need to prepare, anything really.
  • Ask kindly if someone else could run a game for you. Demand could create offer after all.

A GM

  • Describe the game you want to play here in addition to what is to be found on your game page.
  • Ask for advice on how to format your game page.
  • Ask the Organising Team member in charge of the event to put your game on the sign up page and linkify everything that needs be linkified, such as a particular game thread in the forum or your game page for instance. Members of the Organising Team should be able to modify the calendar event and tracker pages to include their own games, but I can do it for them too if need be.

A new member or a simple observer.

We do not bite, so post away.

And for all of the above, you can discuss transport issues here too.

This is the original post, people are invited to propose games as soon as possible to allow players some choice and time to make up their minds.

F.A.Q.?

There is a page of general information about The Big Meet yes.

Hint.

"No game, thus no play makes us pretty dull boys" (and girls), so do not be shy and run something!

Sticky.

This thread will remain as a "sticky" until the July Big Meet has passed, then it will become a normal thread again. After that, you will still be able to comment on the event, but entropy should ensure the thread's slow death and let the newer thread for the current Big Meet take centre stage.

Dear Members,

As usual, I have kept the games that were running at the previous event. Please confirm that they will be running in July by dropping a line here.
Of course, if someone wants to run additional game(s), make yourself known and your game will be put on the list.

I know I will sound annoying and patronising, but may I remind people that even if they know they will play in a game with other people they are in turn sure will show-up, to please click the "Add Me" button for the relevant game?

This allows new members, or prospective members, who have yet to come to a Big Meet, to see that some of you are committed to a game, thus may want to come and see. If our calendar events show empty lists, these potential attendees might just think "Well... I will not be showing-up after all as the game sessions look empty".

I shall be in Austria - for work - on the week of the Big Meet. The plan is to be back on the Friday afternoon, so technically I should be able to show my lovely face.

Laurent,

I'll be there boys and girls and so will Demonwebs. Onwards to the Frost Giants!

Len posts: 1095 United Kingdom

I'll be there, hoping to be in better condition than the last time.

Guilty of attendance. Bringing exodus S2, board games and quite likely icons again. Or maybe other rpg goodness. Advanced fighting fantasy is looking quite alluring at present.

Paladin posts: 219

I have the Titan source book for Fighting Fantasy. ;)

Alan posts: 321 United Kingdom

AFF was how I got my start in roleplaying so when the books got reprinted ultimately I caved under the weight of nostalgia and rose tinted glasses. It has a certain charm to it. smile I quite like the system for its shameless thin-ness and simplicity. Lends itself to kitbashing well...

skerrigan posts: 142 United Kingdom

I loved Dungeoneer and Blacksand. It's a fun system. Glad to see they're rereleasing it.

skerrigan posts: 142 United Kingdom

Bitten by the DM bug again I'm thinking of running a session of Warhammer 2nd Ed (the one with numbers on the die, not hammers) called Once Upon a Time in Marienburg. I'll even *shock horror* let people generate their own characters using the 2nd Ed Careers books, so the gauntlet is on to find the weirdest race/career combo.

Failed completely at making the last couple of Big Meetups. I have no idea what will be on offer, but I haven't rolled dice in far too long, so will be there playing -something- regardless :-)

skerrigan posts: 142 United Kingdom

A blurb for my proposed game:-

Warhammer: Once Upon a Time in Marienburg

"An act of violence is never solitary. Its ripples affect all around it and nothing is as it was before."

As the sun rose over the canals of Marienburg the local fishermen waved, as was their habit, to the crew of The White Dove as it gently approached the Suiddock docks, its hold overflowing with cargo. On board the man once known as Marius Steinfield, looked at a city he did not remember. Little did he realise his return would set wheels in motion. Woe betide those poor fools crushed under those wheels.

I'm looking for 2-6 players on Saturday (though I think my other half will probably play, so I need 1 additional player to run) for a fairly RP intensive scenario.

Im up for playing warhammer. Was going to go airsofting this weekend but as im looking to get back into roleplaying guess I can go next weekend:p.

I'll be able to be around in the evening as well as the mrs will be on nights this weekend.

skerrigan posts: 142 United Kingdom

Hopefully see you then.

I would be up for some Warhammer too, if you have space :-)
Having just moved house, I can say with certainty that, one, I will be there this weekend, two, I will be able to play late, and three, I will probably have to borrow dice from somewhere because finding anything in this jumble of boxes is very hard work :p

But beer, and my heathen veggie ch-ch-ch are going to be the highlight of my weekend :-)

Alan posts: 321 United Kingdom

Sounds like excellent news all round. Does that mean then Milly that you are living a little closer to the event now?

As said previously I'll be there, usual board games and I'll be ready to run the savage worlds zombie game of mine "Exodus" and indeed a session of Icons as demand requires. Though it is sounding like there may be loads on offer and ample people to have two hearty games on the go at this rate.

Good stuff.

Laurent posts: 1029 United Kingdom

Hello,

I will not be back from Austria until late tonight and the wife and I have visitors at our place over the weekend, so I will have to - again - pass on the Big Meet.

Enjoy yourselves tomorrow.

Laurent,

I'll sadly not be present for this, but hopeful for next month, an unholy alliance of work and parental visit.
Have fun, hope to meet you all soon though. Stu

A great game of WFRP, with my players starting as total underdogs in Marienburg, but ably turning the table on one of their enemies without ever drawing a sword. But who is it who is trying to kill them? And why so many monkeys?

A full writeup to follow...

Stuart awesome gm'ing and game mate had a great day and thanks for the lift much appreciated. Cant wait for the next installment...... "monkey see..monkey do" wonder if zhlak's axe will ever get used:p he has got the whole glowering thing down to a tee, who needs to actually wield a weapon when you can just frighten the bad guys into submission :p. Will we ever find out our elf maidens real name? Will my co conspirator ever learn to actually tell the future? Will we catch the fire monkey and his peg leg master? Not to mention taking on the most powerful crime family in marienburg.........

senemedar posts: 19 Poland

Well this morning I have gutted an earthworm I've found in the nearest flowerpot and it told me that you shall have all your questions answered! As for monkey, I've never predicted the future with an such a uncommon animal and be more than happy to do that with one particular specimen.
However even my special hand-made carsd didn't help me to see the name of our elven companion; it is still clouded and hidden from me... I sense an Elder Magick in this one!

skerrigan posts: 142 United Kingdom

@senemedar/Michal - Did you take your character sheet home with you in your notebook? It's not in the pile of papers I took home. Either way remind me your hero's name.
