Non gaming meet idea

Bruce_C posts: 180 United Kingdom

Folks,

I've been following a local sculptor/miniature designer on twitter and the web for a while and wondered if anyone would be interested if we got him to come to a meet to give a short talk.

Obviously we couldn't offer to pay him (though I think I can afford to stump up for an extra ch,ch & ch and a pint) but it might make an interesting addition to a monthly meet.

What do you think?

Bruce,

You mean... inviting a geek to the Big Meet? Are you mad? surprised
What's next, our having to share the pub with train-spotters? biggrin

Apart from that, I would say why not? However we might need to up the attendance a bit if any kind of semi-external event is to take place. The invited guest would surely like to talk to "some" people with "some" being closer to a score than merely half a dozen.

Personally I like miniatures, but being an engineer, thus artistically disabled, I am unable to paint them - those I brought for the game at the last Big Meet had been painted by Andrew, the owner of Vague Connections in Nott'm. Having someone talking about design , cast generation, etc could be interesting indeed.

Laurent,

Very interesting indeed.

Laurent, I have some bad news for you. We do share our venue with train-spotters. Train spotters and beardie real-ale fans (CAMRA) too. So far no one has been in conflict with the weirdo geeks.

A miniature sculptor/designer who is willing to put a presentation to the group would also help pull in more attendance.

Back in the day, when my eyes were more able to present better images to me, and before the hands became too weak to accurately wield a tiny brush, I was able to paint a passable miniature, but sculpting at such small scale was never great.

Cool, I'll keep the idea in mind and see how much interest we get as our numbers grow. If we promote it outside of the group as well we might even attract some new members.

I've always enjoyed painting miniatures. I've never really achieved a high standard but I love the idea of using a figure I've painted myself to represent my character.
