April 2011 Big Meet

Laurent posts: 1029 United Kingdom

Dear Members,

This is the discussion thread for our April 2011 Big Meet.

Obviously, you need to have a look at:

The April 2011 Social

The Afternoon Session

The Evening Session

You are:

A player.

  • Discuss the games on offer, what you need to prepare, anything really.
  • Ask kindly if someone else could run a game for you. Demand could create offer after all.

A GM

  • Describe the game you want to play here in addition to what is to be found on your game page.
  • Ask for advice on how to format your game page.
  • Ask the Organising Team member in charge of the event to put your game on the sign up page and linkify everything that needs be linkified, such as a particular game thread in the forum or your game page for instance. Members of the Organising Team should be able to modify the calendar event and tracker pages to include their own games, but I can do it for them too if need be.

A new member or a simple observer.

We do not bite, so post away.

And for all of the above, you can discuss transport issues here too.

This is the original post, people are invited to propose games as soon as possible to allow players some choice and time to make up their minds.

Hint.

"No game, thus no play makes us pretty dull boys" (and girls), so do not be shy and run something!

Sticky.

This thread will remain as a "sticky" until the April Big Meet has passed, then it will become a normal thread again. After that, you will still be able to comment on the event, but entropy should ensure the thread's slow death and let the newer thread for the current Big Meet take centre stage.

Laurent,

I shall be there if I can; wth the now boringly usual proviso about not knowing until the day how willing the body will be.

I have to say I am not quite sure if it was two months of not being able to make it. But the chilli, chips & cheese was even better than I remembered. The Father Mike's was just as excellent as it always is. The company was excellent as one would expect. (Auto-passes bluff check, as I was not actually bluffing.)

I'll be there as well and my only time restriction this time will be the train timetable.

Incidentally the link to the social page is working like a normal calendar page but the link for to the afternoon session takes me to page that I can edit, is this correct?

Bruce

Bruce,

No it is not.
I shall remedy this now. Well spotted.

Laurent,

Agh, another natural 20!

Dear Big Meet attendees,

Game posted.

I have prepared a game page for The Hydra's Fang Incident which should be running in the afternoon session where you can put your name in the list and game table. If you wish to input more details regarding the character class you wish to play, go for the slightly more elaborate Afternoon session sign-up sheet.

Bruce.

All right, I have fixed the links, I have also fixed them on the calendar item for the social.

This was a rookie mistake, I had forgotten to save the pages first. redface

I'm going to take the plunge and offer to run a game which I'll prepare in case we have too many players for your Pathfinder adventure.

If we have the same number attending I'll just play with you guys but If I offer a game I'm commited to prepping something. If it doesn't get used in April I will have it by me for another session.

I'll prep an Old School game for low level characters using Basic D&D (Red Box) rules. I'll try and find a single session adventure, maybe one of the classic TSR basic modules or something online.

Cheers,

Bruce

Bruce,

Great!

You still have a month to prepare it of course smile but as soon as you have a vague idea, drop the name on this thread or send me a PM and I will put your game on the list.

As pointed above, you do not have to create a page, but it usually helps.

The TikiWiki script is a bit daunting at first but basic pages are relatively easy to create. Feel free to ask me or Len for tips on getting pictures on the site, basic formatting, insertion of references (URLs or "page names"), etc.

As for having "competing" games, first I GM nearly all the time so I would not mind playing, second, we can wait until the day before cancelling a game or going ahead with it.

Having several games advertised, especially in different systems, is more likely to attract people than having only one on offer.

There has been some talks about OSRIC and the likes on the forums of late, your game could indeed push people to come to the Brunswick in April.

Laurent,

OK, call it 'Back to Basics' as I haven't yet decided which adventure to run and I'll have a go at creating a page for it when I've got some more details to add.

Cheers,

Bruce

If it helps at all Bruce, check out the Library. We have some old stuff available that might inspire you.

I too thought the C&C splendid after a long break from attendance

Ive played, and run Hydras Fang before, so will have a think

Laurent posts: 1029 United Kingdom

John,

If you know of one, or more, "Season 0" scenario that you have not played (preferably low level such as Tier 1-2 or 4-5) just tell me and I will read it and could prepare it.

I like the political side of The Hydra's Fang Incident.

Laurent,

I might have a social occassion i dont want to go to, but am struggling to avoid.
Shame, as I could have run something and you could have had a play!!
Will find out asap if i can run and you have a relax!!

Bruce,

I have created the Back to Basics? page and linked it on the Afternoon session page.

The permissions on the page are global, so you should be able to edit it or even rename it. The renaming should propagate, thus the link from the Afternoon session page should not be severed and I shall update the name of your game if necessary there too.

Now you are beginning to show off. rolleyes

Len,

I think I have read that online on the TikiWiki site when looking for how to rename a page. The actual links to the page should update, but I am not so sure about the text as in ((link|text))

Have you noticed that I can name a page like The Hydra's Fang Incident which has an invalid character (the apostrophe) in it? cool

Laurent,

Len posts: 1095 United Kingdom

Yes, but it should "escape" it. (Technical jargon which has nothing to do with passing "escape artist" checks.)

I think you are doing really well.cool (For a Frenchman,)razz

Len

Laurent posts: 1029 United Kingdom

Len,

Well, one just cannot create a page with a name like that. wink

Cannot "escape" it in the original name.

However, if one were to name a page with a valid name, one can merely rename it with an illegal one later... which I find to be a bit odd.eek

Back to the subject, I think that renaming a page indeed does not break its referring links. Hence the explanation about renaming a page with an illegal naming convention.

Laurent,

Thanks Laurent,

I look forward to having a go at setting up a page.

Bruce

Len posts: 1095 United Kingdom

Tikiwiki is international by design. It knows you furriners insist on using umlauts, circumflexes, cedillas and stuff, so while it tries to get you to be sensible, eventually it gives up and lets you have your way. After all an apostrophe is only an inverted comma, so it lets you keep it if you insist. With spitMeetupspit, you might have completely lost your whole page and have to write it all again as Ash did with her Kor'Ath page a long time ago.

Once the page is saved it exists in the database and has a unique-ID, and the name is just a tokenised reference to it. That token can have any form. Hence the apostrophe can be used, as its just text. (This is also why renaming propagates correctly.)
