October 2010 Big Meet

Laurent posts: 1029 United Kingdom

Dear Member,

This is the discussion thread for our October 2010 Big Meet.

Obviously, you need to have a look at:

The October Social

The Afternoon Session

The Evening Session

You are:

  • A player.

Discuss the games on offer, what you need to prepare, anything really.

  • A GM.

Describe the game you want to play here in addition to what is to be found on your game page.
Ask for advice on how to format your game page.
Ask the Organising Team member in charge of the event to put your game on the sign up page and linkify everything that needs be linkified, such as a particular game thread in the forum or your game page for instance. Members of the Organising Team should be able to modify the calendar event and tracker pages to include their own games, but I can do it for them too if need be.

  • A new member or a simple observer.

We do not bite, so post away.

And for all of the above, you can discuss transport issues here too.

This is the original post, people are invited to propose games as soon as possible to allow players some choice and time to make up their minds.

Hint: "No game, thus no play makes us pretty dull boys" (and girls), so do not be shy and run something!

I will not be attending the October Big Meet, but I should be able to help with regards to posting games.

Laurent,

I shall offer to run Deathmatch if required.

1st level PHB 4e characters or pregens in the now standard arena.
This is absolutely ideal drop-in, drop-out format. Good fun, hassle free play.
Kill and/or be killed, every man, woman, or halfling for themselves.
Expect to die several times per game.

Len,

I have now finished setting-up the events and thread (this one). I had forgotten to reset the sign-up pages, but this has now been done.

Deathmatch

Since you are the one who has designed the TikiWiki scripts I guess you can post your own game by yourself. For the sake of setting standards, create a game page, and hot-link it to the game title (to replace "Game 1" on the event page).

The cross-links between this thread and the three event pages should work.

Other games

As pointed out on the event pages (afternoon and evening sessions), more than two games can take place and thus be advertised, so talk about what you want to play here.

I have left "Game 1" and "Game 2" as placeholders, so please do not register for them (it is a bit annoying to clear these tables, even if it is very easy for users to register their name), wait for games to appear!

I dont mind bringing a 4E pregen adventure... and run if needed but quite equally I will play if there is no uptake...

It will be Eberron campaign "Seekers of the Ashen Crown"

Pregen characters run over a couple of sessions, where people can drop in and out as they wish...

Len posts: 1095 United Kingdom

I have done as you told me to Monsieur. I hope it meets with your excellent taste, and conforms to your wonderful precedent.

Deathmatch exists. Mwahahahaha! twisted

Roll up, roll up. Get yer Albatross here.

Ashley,

Would you like to run your game in the evening?
I can set a game page for you to fill in and make it appear on a the Evening Session event vignette.

Laurent,

Jaxtasha posts: 111

Yeah sure I can run in either slot. Thought I would start bring something so we could advertise more stuff. My apologies it is more D&D but I would need pregen to fit in with work schedule and 4E is the only system I have them for...

Laurent posts: 1029 United Kingdom

Ashley,

Please go there.

I have created a game page for you, I know you can make one yourself but I needed a placeholder.

Edit: Obviously you may want to add yourself to the list of participant to your game. smile

I should be coming and I'd love to get a slot on the Ashen Crown game, I'll add myself on the event page when I'm certain I'll be going.

Deathmatch also sounds like a lot of fun, I'll probably use a pregen for simplicities sake. Will you have pregen character sheets and miniatures with you? Probably an obvious answer to this but I'm new so I'll ask anyway. smile

Len posts: 1095 United Kingdom

I shall have character sheets, minis, even dice and pencils should you need them.cool

Deathmatch is a way for even people who have never roleplayed before to be able to get into a game.

Naturally, for an absolute n00b, we will expect that the other players will be as welcoming as we try to be. Past experience has been that when confronted with a complete novice, players tend to love explaining what to do, why to do it, and it has never been a problem yet.

Looks like I won't be able to make it, I've got a friend visiting this weekend. Could someone remove me from the event signup sheet?
Sorry guys.

Laurent posts: 1029 United Kingdom

Mike,

Sorry to hear you cannot make it.
I have removed you as requested.

Sorry, I'm going to have to give this month a miss. I have a couple of busted ribs from being knocked off my bike last night (always check for oncoming cyclists when turning right!) and I won't be very good company this weekend. Hope to be good for the Nov Big Meet.

Can’t make this one as I am a very poor poor person this month, but will try and make next months meet smile I would like to get a game of 4E and death match sounds a lot of fun too biggrin Wonder if my Halfling barbarian could be converted from 3.5 and be able to survive?

Good luck to everyone going this weekend though and I hope to see you next month!

Rob

Rob,

Best hope of recovery and see you at the November meet indeed.

Len and his merry men and women,

Nice to see you all today at the Brunswick, my fiancée was pleased to have met the "band of nerds" I play with cool once a month.

We were also impressed at the size of the Westfield shopping centre in Derby, we have two in Nott'm, but this one is pretty big indeed. When looking at one of these "you are here" maps, the shopping centre is pretty much Derby city centre, I mean real estate-wise.surprised

Anyway, fiancée happy with shopping, and tired me and glad to be home at the end of the day.

See you next month when we should indeed have more people. Depending on working shifts one of my players would be able to drive me and a couple of others to the November Big Meet.

Laurent,

We had a good time Laurent, and it was good to see you pop by.

A great discussion session. A chinwag with Laurent & his good lady, Nice to bring back memories of a different life.

Then more DMing discussion stuff. (TPK avoidance Etc) Then we decided to go straight into the 4th Ed game Ash brought along, and played a nice big session of that. I must say the human wizard kicked ass. Ha! Magma elementals don't like Ray of Frost at all, do they. At will, much better than magic MISSile.

A nice friendly session with some really nice folks from three cities. Just as it should be.
