Introduction

A great empire in the north is contained only by a large mountain range. The free peoples of the south seek to defend their borders by defending the few paths through or over the mountains.

In the North the empire expands, raiding towns and villages and assimilating their inhabitants into the empire. Any who won't join them are destroyed.

The empire is loosely based on Nordic culture.

Player characters come from the north and have all been found guilty of some form of crime for which there is only one sentence... exile to the prison island of Durgos. No one has ever escaped.

The prison is set into a deep canyon aside a great mountain on a frozen island off the North West coast of the empire. Access is by ship only, and even then only when the tides allow it.
