Len

My name is Len Simpson, I used to run the Eastmindlands Dungeons & Dragons Meetup Group, which became the Eastmidlands Roleplayers Meetup Group, which eventually became this group.

I was not the original founder of the Meetup group. I inherited it from David. who soon found he could not manage to continue with his involvement in running the group. He selected me as his assistant, and when the time came for him to stand down he appointed me as organiser. Having run the group as his assistant for almost six months, I knew how much work was involved, so I recruited some assistants of my own.

I make no money from this group, and do not wish to do so. In fact it has cost a fair bit to set up the new group independently of Meetup. I get my rewards from watching the members of this group have fun. Though we will happily accept voluntary donations towards the expense of running the group, the best way to pay me back, is to have fun yourself. I cannot be there to witness all the games being played. Though I have been known to drop in when I can. We have far too many games in far to many locations for me to possibly get to them all. So I rely on seeing the activity on the site reflect that fun.

Photos of the fun in the photo albums, 'Wiki Pages' for games, and general banter on the forums all add to the fun I get out of the group, but I also get involved in what games I can do, as well as run a few myself. Those same things that add to my fun also attract new members to the group. Under normal circumstances, the group's content (Except those few things marked as members only for privacy reasons) is visible to non-members, who see the fun, and want to be part of it.

I positively encourage pictures of people having fun and of games being played in the Photo Albums. I positively encourage banter on the message boards, and I have even given XP for Wiki Pages.

I have been a D&D player for far too long a while now, and also enjoy the occasional foray into other systems. I am not a great computer games player, as I work with the damned things far too much to want to spend my whole life on one. You might say that I spend a lot of time on this site, and that is on a computer; but I would say that this is merely a way for me to interact with the very real people who are members of this group.

I realise I am getting older, and will one day have to hand over the reins to someone else. That day has not yet arrived, and I hope that when it does, I will be able to confidently say 'I know that whoever I hand over to will also have the best interests of the whole group at heart.'

To that end, I have done my best to ensure that this group could continue to run without me by the folks we call The Group Administration Team, and by the select Backroom staff, who work behind the scenes so that things run smoothly on your side.
