Bandaluthia: Session 32

A knock at the door stopped Coolio from searching the empty cupboards for the fourth time for food. An exchange of glances with Ratsel saw the Tiefling answer the door. A halfling dressed in black bowed in greetings to the Tiefling.
Ratsel turned away in disgust and called to Coolio, bidding him to the door. The halfling introduced himself as Ti Ying, a student of “The Way” and said that Brother Vincenza had sent him to help the Animals.

Thelonius turned up and invited the Animals for breakfast. During the repast, he informed them that at 1o’clock this afternoon was the time for the rescue of D’Jarra-Leon. He went on to tell them that the Hall of True Seeing would have its detectors disabled for fifteen minutes. During these few minutes, the Animals must get in, find D’Jarra-Leon and get him out. Thelonius gave them a map of the College which pinpointed the location of his master. A potion was also issued to the Animals for his master to consume immediately upon his release and instructions for their teleporting escape.

As plans were made, fine tuned, binned and remade the hour approach all too quickly. Bernhard turned up to take the first wave of Animals, and then Steve took the rest. At the main doors of the Wizards College, the lunch time rush was plain to see. People milled about, some looked purposeful while others looked to have time on their hands. The Animals looked to be in trepidation. They knew they must act, and did so in pseudo confidence. The walked up the stairs as the clock sounded out one o’clock. Coolio, Jacob and Ti Ying were all polymorphed by potions. Ratsel was disguised by way of magic and Elodee by way of her own racial skills. Only Shaniqua was natural, and she had only been looking like a ‘real’ elf for the day.

As they entered the Hall of True Seeing, the pessimistic side of the Animals nature expected to hear the alarms and to be arrested. Neither happened, so the Animals walked with a little more purpose through the hall. On the far left hand side of the busy hall was a staircase going down. The top of the steps was guarded by a City guard. As Elodee approached she said “Apricot” and the guard, a female human called Tyler Jenkins, Sergeant, handed Elodee an official paper. Tyler then let the Animals down the stairs. As they went two floors down, Coolio cast a silence spell in the first stairwell. Another was cast at the door to the cells where D’Jarra-Leon was being held.

As Jacob opened the door, Elodee let cast a deep slumber spell, which affected three of the four guards. Shaniqua and Ti Ying tumbled into the room to stop the remaining guard from raising any alarm. Another spell from Elodee repertoire caused the guard to be dazed, whilst the rest of the intruding Animals tied the guards up, and then gagged them. D’Jarra-Leon’s cell was located quickly by Shaniqua and then they opened his cell door, albeit tentatively as they still expected discovery at any moment. D’Jarra-Leon was held up by a two pronged hook which was embedded into his skull. He was just about semi-conscious and as Jacob and Shaniqua pulled the spiked hooks from his head, he slumped to the floor. Ratsel administered the potion, and then Jacob lifted him up over his shoulder and the six animals and the great wizard made their escape. Both Jacob and D’Jarra-Leon were made invisible. On the first set of stairs going out, Shaniqua and Ti Ying heard voices arguing over a spell. The voices kept stopping and starting again, and the phrase ‘Divine Magic’ kept being used. It seemed that the first silence spell had been discovered. Elodee approached with care and used her last deep slumber spell. It worked and all three voices fell asleep.

At the top of the stairs which lead to the Hall of True Seeing, the guard, Tyler, caught hold of Coolio’s sleeve and pointed to where a thin line if vomit was seeping down Jacobs invisible back. Coolio moved closer and made Ratsel aware of the situation, so between the two, they created a visual block to make sure that their invisible allies remained safe. Outside Bernhard pulled up his long carriage and the Animals got in. It took just a few minutes for D’Jarra-Leon to become lucid and to be able to work some magic. The teleport worked and instantaneously the Animals and D’Jarra-Leon where in the games room of The Sword of Orlathry. The escape plan had worked and the wizard was safe, for now at least.

D’Jarra-Leon summonsed some clothing, and stories were exchanged. The tale of 22 Acacia Avenue was told from D’Jarra-Leon’s point of view, which was possibly the most accurate and honest that the Animals had heard. The Animals told D’Jarra-Leon of their own exploits in the wilderness, and gave him the book he had wanted. After much discussion and bargaining, D’Jarra-Leon gave the Animals the deeds to the Sword of Orlathry in exchange for the books from the crypt of Aver’Thaal-Aferlo Khan. He also took the Amulet of Avernus Rulership for safe keeping.

So the Animals pull off a very daring rescue without any a major hitch? Were they seen by any witnesses who may be able to identify them? They now have a bit of a cash resource drain in the Sword of Orlathry, so can they turn the pub finances around?
