Bandaluthia: Session 8

The morning rang in with 1st breakfast and the two Halflings, Coolio and Doogle were joined by Ratsel, Tyven and Hellhound. Coolio asked a defensive Ratsel about his lineage, and then proceeded to weave a tale of truth (of sorts) about the jewels which they hoped to sell later that day. Ratsel officially took possession of them. Shaniqua appeared by 2nd breakfast and Coolio asked her to steal the jewels. Shaniqua tried a few times before finally liberating them from Ratsel’s open pouch and unguarded manner. The wily halfling then had the jewels passed back and forth through the fighters (this happened several times, much to orcling pair and the wee barbarian’s confusion) and then finally to Shaniqua again. Coolio then asked Shaniqua to return them to him. The bemused Animals were then enlightened by Coolio.
“These jewels used to belong to a descendant of The Devil Asmodeus Himself. The jewels were stolen, passed through many hands, before coming into my own possession”
This is the ‘legacy’ of the jewels, and Coolio plans to make much needed money from them.
Plans were afoot to sell them at 1o’clock through Oberau. Plans were also in motion to meet up with some girls to help pay the rent of 22 Acacia Avenue, which will hopefully be available by tomorrow. Plans were again in motion to meet some muscle to assist in the protection of the house, but this was met with suspicion, as nobody had actually asked Dave to sort this particular problem out. They also had plans to follow Dave as he was off to meet Anastasia later on, and this was unofficial guild business.
Hellhound, disguised as a beggar, went to Buckstars, a café where the jewellery trick was set to take place. Hellhound started to scope the area. Ratsel purchased two cloaks before he too, checked out Buckstars. Shaniqua and Doogle entered together and sat away from Ratsel. Enter Coolio, Oberau and the ‘heavy’ Tyven. They took a table and started to sip their beverages. Outside a group approach, four guys all well armed and cloaked up took an outside table and a bald guy from the four ordered their drinks. In comes Joshua and his two heavies. Joshua got in drinks and they started the bartering for the jewels. Outside the four armed men are joined by three swarthy looking gents who carry a large bag.
Inside Coolio tells the tale of the jewels. It becomes apparent to him, that Joshua has no intention of buying the items, instead, he declares himself police, and tells his guys to arrest Oberau. Quicker than a whip Oberau takes flight. He leaps across the table and out of the door. At the declaration of “Police” the four outside spring into action, and slay the first of their three victims. Joshua, a wizard by trade, coolly casts a spell; gooey web shoots and takes down the nimble thief on the run. A heavy punches Coolio, knocking the halfling out cold before he can act. Ratsel and Shaniqua bravely (a sarcastic ‘bravely’ is used much with these two!) move away from the fight.
Outside, the four make the now two, one. Hellhound runs from his begging position to go for the wizard. Tyven swings his glaive and hits a heavy, Doogle hits the other. The wizard, Joshua, tries casts magic missile straight into the approaching Hellhounds face. Hellhound beats him to it, and cuts open a large hole in the man with his great axe. Ratsel finishes him with a quick one-two from the ‘Kaleidoscope’ Tyven starts to miss, as he cannot wield his glaive properly, due to the many people he does not want to hurt. Doogle makes up for this by making his first kill for The Animals. Shaniqua positions herself to extract Coolio from harms way. (A selfless act?) Ratsel casts, not his signature magic missile, but detect magic on the bodies.
Outside Oberau cuts himself free from his sticky trap, and the four have made the three, none! Oberau looks inside, sees his new friend down, sees Joshua’s heavy still swinging, and begs the four to help Coolio and the rest, as alarms from the real Town Guard are getting closer. The four demand 2,000gp and Oberau agrees, but if they are quick, and get away.
Inside, Hellhound leaps at the last remaining foe and takes him down. The four burst into the fray. They pump the last heavy with six cross bow bolts, and pick up all who are on the floor. They are then ordered out the back. As the escape is made, they demand payment from Oberau who quickly asks Ratsel for the purse he got from Joshua. The Animals refuse to help and pay Oberau’s promise. The four get nasty, and just as more bolts were to be let loose, Coolio pays, but tells Oberau that he thinks this is all one big set up. Upon seeing another 3,000gp in the bag, one of the four decides he want the lot. The Bald one cuffs him upside the head, and the race off as the Police alarms, are alarmingly close.
Back at the Satyr & Sickle Oberau is already telling Dave what has gone on. Dave wants no part of it, and the resulting argument between Oberau and Coolio sees Oberau storm off. The Animals sit and go over their side of the story with Dave, when the four come in, with the bag that they got from the three they killed less than an hour before. They ask Dave for 50,000gp for the contents. Dave has to send for Freddie Carver, the Monterey District Guild head. While they await the arrival of the District head, Shaniqua tries to ask where they got those wonderful crossbows. They appear humourless, and tell Shaniqua in no uncertain terms to *expletive deleted* off! Some ten minutes later, Monterey’s Guild head turns up. Freddie barters with the four and the sale is made at 30,000gp. The bag contained many ‘little white pillows’ according to Shaniqua. The four ask permission to work unassociated, but this is declined. The four would be alone. They leave. Shaniqua follows. Her interest tweaked by their crossbows.
The male contingent of the Animals head back to The Whip Inn to meet the girls that Carly had found for them. After wining and dining the twelve lovely ladies, the decision was made to hire not four (as originally decided) and not six (as decided on the night, but seven. Men??? Whilst these beautiful ladies have their undivided attention, none but Coolio seems to have given Shaniqua a second thought.
Shaniqua followed the four to The Titan’s Maul. A favoured pub of the Town Guard. As the four enter, Shaniqua follows still, but is stopped at the inner door, a dagger to her throat. They ask why she has followed them. She garbles some nonsensical rubbish about crossbows and the four remain un-amused by the cheeky halfdrow.
Has Shaniqua bitten off more than she can chew?
