Astra's Story

Conception

Astra was the unexpected product of a short lived but very spirited interracial relationship. His human father and elven mother met in Puerto Verde during his fathers shore leave from the Merchant Navy Guard. He had just completed his own Cuerno and was strutting around town very pleased with himself and very eager to meet the right lady.

The one particular lady that caught his eye was a young elven greengrocer, selling fruit that her family had harvested. The instant he saw her he was besotted, and he proceeded to spend the next 3 weeks plying her with gifts, and attempting to sing verses that hed gotten a local bard to write for him. Impressed with his efforts the young elf eventually gave in to his advances.

Endless arguments between the two of them due to their cultural differences, coupled with lectures from the young girls parents about diluting the superior elven blood meant that the relationship was short lived and his father left the port on a ship never to be seen again.

Birth

Soon after his mother realised she was pregnant but she kept it secret for as long as possible, in fear of what her parents would say. When her parents did eventually find out however they insisted that the baby be killed upon birth saying they shall have no half-breed child within their family and that it was for the good of the elven race. When she refused that and threatened to run away they concocted a better plan.

They suggested the baby be given away to a less fortunate family, but what they didnt say was the less fortunate family would be the assassins guild. She agreed to this and sure enough, when the baby was born it was given away, and the mother believed she had done the right thing.

Brush With Death

The assassins guild, not impressed with the low payment offered by the elven family, didnt put a great deal of effort into the death of the child, simply dropping it off a bridge and then disappearing into the shadows. The splash as the baby landed in the water made a few people turn their heads and then shriek in terror as the realised what had happened.

The baby was immediately swept away by a slow but forceful current, its oil skin blanket keeping it afloat. During the fall its leg had fallen out of this blanket, and this was the only thing that made the floating object stand out from all of the other rubbish floating in the river. It was this leg that caught the eye of one particular passer-by who saw the birthmark that was on the calf.

Rescue And Adoption

The person was a heroic freelance fighter who formally worked in the mountain guard, and this mark had a very special meaning to him. He immediately dived into the filthy river to save the child and he took it to the place he associated with the symbol THE LIBRARY.

The librarians adopted the child, seeing the birthmark as a sign that he must be destined for greatness and they named him Astra, after the god Astraea who they worship. During the guilds abilty testing, Astra showed an extraordinary ability for learning and an exceptional intelligence, it wasnt a great leap for the group to decide that wizard training would be perfectly suited to him.

Upbringing

As Astra grew up he began to ask questions of his real family, the librarians, being true neutral, told him mostly the truth, up to the part about him being abandoned. This is where a little lie about his mother
dying during birth was a little less distressing to the child than the real truth.

From that point Astra was very isolated from the real world, gaining all the knowledge he needed from the books around him and the teachers within the librarians, the surroundings soon began to bore him however
and he began to make simple illusionary distractions for himself, finding illusions fascinating he insisted on being taught that as his specialisation. Understanding that personal drive is perhaps one of the greatest means realising potential the librarians of course agreed to him becoming an Illusionist.

Once Astra reached an age where he could begin his Cuerno Verde the guild decided that there was little more they could teach him for now, and a break would be more than useful to young Astra. They also realised that during a Cuernos Quest they can often pick up bits of lost and unknown information faster than an undercover agent could during a lifetimes service, and so they charged him with the top secret mission of __finding out
everything about the secret Cuerno Verde quest__.
